This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

As part of a hardworking team of engineers, you will lead a team of data engineers responsible for New Glenn data management. As the New Glenn Data Engineering Manager, you will have technical, budgetary and schedule accountability for New Glenn program data engineering projects, AI solution development, and vehicle data systems architecture. The primary team location and preferred location for this position is Kent, Washington. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable human spaceflight.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide technical and personnel leadership to the New Glenn Data Engineering team
  • Establish data management standards and execution roadmap leading to harmonized, AI-ready data
  • Advise on Blue Origin software development projects that develop systems to support data management and drive requirements back into source system and improve data quality and coverage
  • Lead data support for configuration management and pedigree review processes
  • Lead and execute business process and data tool design reviews in support of product scoping
  • Lead the collection, post-processing, and maintenance of New Glenn vehicle data (e.g. ledgers)
  • Collaborate with leadership of peer teams outside of the Strategy & Business Operations organization to influence work in data systems not under New Glenn direct control
  • Advise on Blue Origin generative artificial intelligence strategy
  • Manage the generative artificial intelligence solution inputs to the New Glenn program roadmap
  • Lead the execution of New Glenn program generative artificial intelligence development projects
  • Support all New Glenn program gated reviews with meaningful data
  • Support leadership escalations across all program areas with meaningful data as requested
  • Coordinate and work closely with New Glenn product teams to support design, build, test, and operations activities
  • Develop and execute project plans, including schedules, budgets, cost estimates and reporting against financial forecast
  • Manage workflow and balance priorities across the team to support schedule objectives
  • Manage roles, responsibilities, and accountability and act as a mentor for team members
  • Grow the team by leading the recruiting, interview and hiring process as needed
  • Review and understand company-wide processes and command media to ensure proper compliance
  • Perform hands-on data engineering and generative artificial intelligence work as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of relevant aerospace systems or data engineering experience
  • In-depth understanding of data engineering and generative artificial intelligence principles
  • Experience leading an engineering team in a production space-flight environment
  • Demonstrated experience with aerospace vehicle data systems architecture (operations and test)
  • Previous experience and success in developing / fielding new data architectures and pipelines
  • Experience in developing and managing to department financial targets
  • Strong personnel, project management and communication skills
  • Ability to operate, make decisions, lead, and make forward progress in ambiguous environments
  • Understanding of product life cycle management and associated gated reviews
  • Proficiency in business and data engineering software (e.g. MS Office, Python, Databricks, PowerBI)
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Prior experience managing direct reports (e.g. goal setting, mentorship, performance reviews)
  • Advanced experience in generative artificial intelligence solution development
  • Previous aerospace vehicle data engineering team leadership experience
  • Experience with Gitlab source control and CICD processes


Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $197,004.00 - $275,805.60

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
