What You'll Do

The IT Platform Engineer – Senior Manager is responsible for engineering, evolving, and operating BCG’s global AWS Cloud platform. This role leads the design and delivery of secure, scalable, and highly automated cloud infrastructure capabilities that power mission-critical solutions across the business—accelerating delivery across BCG’s AWS environments and strengthening a trusted cloud foundation built for scale.

As a hands-on technical leader, this individual drives and contributes directly to the implementation of modern DevSecOps practices, Infrastructure as Code, and self-service platform capabilities to enhance reliability, security, user experience, and consistency at scale. Working closely with architecture, security, and application teams, the Senior Manager ensures the AWS platform operates as a product—continuously improving performance, governance, and automation while meeting enterprise standards.

This role balances strategic platform evolution with operational excellence, fostering a culture of engineering excellence, automation-first thinking, and measurable service quality across the AWS ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

1. AWS Platform Architecture & Engineering

  • Own and evolve BCG’s global AWS Cloud platform, ensuring scalable, secure, and resilient design.
  • Define and standardize core infrastructure patterns (multi-account strategy, landing zones, networking, IAM, compute, storage, container platforms).
  • Establish reusable patterns through modular Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) to accelerate solution delivery across the business.
  • Translate platform strategy into prioritized engineering roadmaps with clear performance, reliability, and cost objectives.

2. Platform Product, Enablement & Automation

  • Lead the AWS platform as a user-centric product, designing intuitive, reusable self-service capabilities that simplify and accelerate cloud adoption across engineering teams.
  • Drive automation-first engineering capabilities that minimise friction while embedding security, compliance, and governance guardrails by design.
  • Prioritise user experience by reducing cognitive load and eliminating manual processes through automated platform workflows.
  • Leverage usage insights and platform telemetry to improve usability, reliability, and secure-by-default behaviours.

3. Reliability, Security & Operational Excellence

  • Ensure availability, resilience, and performance of AWS platform services through strong operational standards and governance.
  • Partner with SRE and Security teams to uphold SLAs/SLOs, monitoring frameworks, incident response practices, and secure-by-design principles.
  • Implement observability standards (metrics, logging, tracing) to enable proactive performance management and rapid issue resolution.
  • Enforce zero-trust and least-privilege access controls across AWS environments.

4. Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Lead and develop a high-performing cloud engineering team responsible for AWS platform architecture and operations.
  • Set technical standards and promote disciplined, automation-driven engineering practices.
  • Collaborate with enterprise architecture, networking, security, and application teams to ensure cohesive platform integration and alignment.
  • Mentor engineers and strengthen cloud engineering capability across the organisation.

What You'll Bring

  • 8+ years of experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure engineering, or platform engineering roles.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience designing and operating AWS environments at scale.
  • Strong expertise across AWS core domains, including multi-account networking, IAM strategy, container orchestration (e.g. EKS) and security services.
  • Proven experience implementing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform in enterprise environments.
  • Experience embedding DevSecOps practices into CI/CD pipelines and self-service workflows.
  • Demonstrated ownership of platform reliability, including monitoring, observability, SLAs/SLOs, and incident response practices.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for diverse stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • AWS certifications (e.g. AWS Solutions Architect – Professional, DevOps Engineer – Professional).
  • Experience with multi-account AWS landing zone architectures and governance frameworks.
  • Familiarity with container orchestration platforms (EKS) and modern cloud-native patterns (Serverless).
  • Familiarity with zero-trust models, least-privilege IAM strategies, and secure-by-design cloud architecture.
  • Exposure to FinOps practices and cloud cost optimization strategies.
  • Experience working in a global, enterprise-scale environment supporting distributed teams.
