Practice Area

BCG’s Energy practice helps companies navigate an increasingly complex business climate. The practice covers the Oil & Gas and Power & Utilities sectors. We also have deep knowledge in Energy transition and Sustainability, Energy Trading and Risk Management and Energy Engineering and Services. Our projects typically apply BCG’s core consulting skills in functional areas such as, digitalization, strategy, organisation or performance improvement, but in the distinctive environment of Energy. We also address projects that touch upon more operational or technical challenges, which we deliver through our expert consultants, occasionally partnering with external specialists. We work with the senior leaders of leading international and national oil companies, service providers, utilities, regulators and financial institutions. The Energy Practice has enjoyed rapid and sustained annual growth over several years, representing about 10% of BCG’s global business volume. Worldwide over 300 Partners, Principals and Project Leaders focus in the Energy space, supported by a large group of Energy experienced and trained Consultants and Analysts, many with pre-BCG industry experience. We are well known for our long history of cutting-edge research and thought leadership. Consulting with BCG ensures you work on the biggest issues being tackled by senior management, with a wide variety of experiences across different clients, topics and geographies.

What You'll Do

As Consultant in the Capital Projects Excellence practice, you will bring deep expertise in the planning, delivery, assurance, and recovery of large-scale capital projects to help clients maximize value across complex portfolios. While energy sector experience is valuable, the role is open to candidates with strong Large Capital Projects Excellence experience across capital-intensive industries. Working as part of BCG's Traditional Consulting Track, you'll partner with client teams to diagnose challenges, design solutions, and deliver lasting impact.

Your role will include:

• Advising clients across energy and other capital-intensive sectors on the end-to-end capital project lifecycle
• Supporting project recovery, portfolio optimization, value assurance, and delivery excellence efforts for complex large capital projects and major infrastructure programs.
• Bringing specialized expertise in capital project delivery, project controls, contracting, project economics, risk management, and operational improvement.
• Leveraging AI-enabled and digital solutions to improve project delivery, enhance project controls, and support value assurance for complex capital projects.
• Working with case teams to develop intellectual capital, methodologies, and proprietary tools in Large Capital Projects Excellence, while fostering cross-functional collaboration within BCG, including Energy and other relevant practice areas.

What You'll Bring

• 5-8+ years of experience in Large Capital Projects, ideally in the energy sector (oil & gas, power, renewables, hydrogen, or related energy infrastructure) or in other capital-intensive sectors such as infrastructure, industrials, natural resources, transportation, or complex construction.
• Strong track record supporting or managing megaprojects, major infrastructure programs, EPC projects, or other CAPEX-intensive programs.
• Proven ability to balance competing project priorities, align diverse stakeholders, and deliver results under complex conditions, with a clear operations / delivery orientation.
• Strong knowledge of contracting strategies, project economics, project controls, schedule / cost management, and risk management in large capital projects.
• Familiarity with digital and AI-enabled approaches to strengthen project delivery, project controls, risk management, and decision-making is a plus.
• Demonstrated leadership, analytical rigor, and strategic thinking skills.
• Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement abilities, with credibility across technical and executive audiences.

You will work with BCG's Large Capital Projects Excellence team, in close collaboration with the Energy Practice and other industry and functional practice areas. The team helps clients create competitive advantage by improving the planning, delivery, assurance, and recovery of complex capital projects and building the capabilities required to deliver lasting impact.
