Associate Director, External Operations Materials Management (SFMD)

About the Role:

At Boston Scientific, the Associate Director, External Operations Materials Management (SFMD) leader will build and oversee a new External FG Materials Management Department, setting strategy/objectives and determining direction for Purchasing and Supply Planning functions for SFMD products. Hire, train, and develop Planning & Purchasing personnel. This position is part of the Global Sourcing organization.

Your Responsibilities Include:

Planning and Purchasing Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with external suppliers on FG production plan, monthly. Monitor execution to the plan. Facilitate and/or provide oversight for SI&OP process: monthly Committed Build Plan (CBP) process and weekly execution management meetings with external suppliers and Supply Management meetings with internal divisional (GSCP) customers.
  • Purchasing Responsibilities: Utilize and influence GDPS best practices to procure finished goods from external suppliers; establish and track KPIs for supplier performance to PO commitments.
  • Process: Collaborate with GSC Planning, internal manufacturing planning/purchasing managers, GDP and GSC COE to align on best practices and roles/responsibilities for newly established team.
  • Establish a clear, consistent process for escalation of issues impacting supply continuity.
  • Liaison between External Manufacturing and GSC Planning (and internal sites for BSC as a supplier); represents external manufacturing at GSC leadership forums to communicate plans and supply risks.
  • Represent GSC Planning/External Operations at supplier meetings and FG volume reviews for AOP, Strat, Long Range Capacity Planning.
  • Systems: Possess strong working knowledge of computer systems/programs (i.e. SAP, Rapid Response, Word, Excel and PowerPoint); establish, document, and maintain External Supply Planning and Purchasing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GMP and ISO requirements; review and approve change requests that are applicable to the Planning and Purchasing function; constantly work toward streamlining Planning and Purchasing Processes to eliminate non-value added activities.
  • Budget: budget and control department annual operating expenses.
  • Staff Development: develop staff through coaching, mentoring, and recruiting; provide development and growth opportunities. Set continuous improvement goals and department objectives.
  • Inventory Management: Collaborate with GSC Planning to ensure planning and purchasing strategies and commitments with External Suppliers align with Finished Good inventory objectives.

In all actions, demonstrates a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality by maintaining compliance to the Quality Policy and all other documented quality processes and procedures.

  • Assures that appropriate resources (personnel, tools, etc.) are maintained to assure Quality System compliance and adherence to the BSC Quality Policy.
  • Establishes and promotes a work environment that supports the Quality Policy and Quality System.

What We’re Looking For:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field required.
  • 5+ years professional experience in a supply chain function required (Manufacturing Planning, Purchasing, Sourcing, GSC Planning)
  • People Management experience required.
  • Progressive knowledge and experience in:
    • Utilizing planning & purchasing software (i.e., Rapid Response and SAP)
  • Understand Manufacturing concepts: world class manufacturing, manufacturing standardization and simplification, Lean, etc.
  • Understand Quality Requirements: ISO and CGMP
  • Possess strong verbal communication skills is detail oriented & possesses exemplary organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and systems skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly adaptable to accept new ideas, people, processes, and procedures.
  • Travel required up to 20%.
