Our Culture
Our culture is anchored in excellence, meaning constant improvement, and it is deeply tied to our mission. Because markets are objective, competitive, and getting smarter everyday, we need to keep rapidly improving to have any chance of beating them. Truth is our most essential tool for engaging with the markets and constantly improving because once you know what's true about your problems and opportunities, you can determine how to get better. Valuing truth means being transparent about your decision-making and mistakes, giving and receiving feedback with humility, and fighting for the best answers over hierarchy, ego, or self-interest. Operating this way is hard – it's only possible because we build meaning in our work and relationships. This meaning comes from the audacity of the mission, and the joy of working alongside people who make you a better version of yourself. The culture, like Bridgewater itself, is always evolving. In 1997 our founder Ray Dalio wrote down his lessons, starting with a Philosophy Statement which remains our foundation. This later evolved into a set of 300+ Principles. In 2022, when Ray transitioned the company, we re-underwrote several of those principles and evolved others, with a specific focus on Meritocracy. Today the culture sits, alongside our people, as our most important edge. When we get it right, it’s the engine that powers everything else.
Engineering Manager – AI-Enabled Investment Platforms
Overview of the Role
The Engineering Manager will play a critical leadership role in the design, build, and evolution of Bridgewater Associates’ AI-Enabled Investment Platforms—a set of tightly integrated platforms through which investment logic, quantitative research, and AI capabilities are expressed, scaled, and operated.
This is a senior, hands-on leadership role for an experienced technologist who combines strong architectural judgment, modern engineering instincts, and people leadership. You will own multiple core platforms end-to-end, lead high-performing engineering teams, and partner deeply with investors, researchers, and scientists to translate complex ideas into reliable, high-impact systems.
Success in this role requires comfort operating in a modern engineering paradigm: shaping system design, leveraging advanced tooling and agentic workflows, providing context and direction to increasingly automated systems, and ensuring teams consistently ship high-quality outcomes—rather than optimizing for individual code output.
You May Be a Good Fit If You…
- Are excited about AI-assisted development as a way to meaningfully amplify developer productivity, creativity, and leverage—while recognizing the continued importance of human judgment, taste, and ingenuity
- Spend time actively refining, customizing, and evolving your AI workflows, including how tools, agents, and automation are orchestrated to achieve better outcomes
- Enjoy thinking about how emerging capabilities change how software is designed, built, and operated—not just what is built
Key Responsibilities

- Design and build systems using modern development approaches, including advanced tooling, automation, orchestration, and AI-assisted workflows

- Drive platform modernization, performance improvements, and disciplined reduction of technical debt across the platform ecosystem
- Partner closely with investors, researchers, and scientists to deeply understand workflows and express them in durable, extensible technology
- Set and uphold high standards for reliability, testing, observability, security, and operational excellence
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop senior engineers and technical leads, creating an environment of high ownership, intellectual rigor, and continuous improvement
- Actively shape how teams work, including how they reason about quality, correctness, and delivery in complex systems
- Bring a clear point of view on how high-performing teams should design, build, and operate production platforms
- Set expectations, provide regular feedback, and coach individuals toward sustained growth and impact
- Build and scale teams through hiring, onboarding, and ongoing talent development
- Foster strong collaboration across technology, research, and investment groups
Engineering Excellence & Delivery
- Establish and evolve engineering practices that enable teams to consistently ship high-quality systems
- Balance short-term delivery pressure with long-term platform health, resilience, and sustainability
- Drive clarity around technical roadmaps, dependencies, risks, and trade-offs across the platform portfolio
- Champion strong documentation, shared context, and operational transparency
Strategy & Stakeholder Partnership
- Partner with senior technology and business leaders to shape multi-platform strategy and execution
- Communicate complex technical ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Influence technology direction through sound judgment, principled reasoning, and hands-on engagement
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience building and operating complex production systems
- 4+ years in a senior technical leadership role (e.g., technical lead, engineering manager, senior technical manager)
- Proven experience owning and evolving large-scale platforms, ideally in investment, financial, data, or AI-driven environments
- Strong system design and architectural skills across distributed systems, data platforms, and AI-enabled systems
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams while remaining deeply engaged in technical decisions
- Experience working closely with investors, researchers, or scientists on demanding, high-stakes problems
- Strong judgment, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building platforms that support quantitative research, investment decision-making, or advanced analytics
