Risk specialist at Capital One are highly motivated risk and process management professionals with excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. A successful risk manager operates from a foundation of knowledge about the Line of Business with whom they are working, laws/regulations, processes and associated controls, and good risk management and risk mitigation practices. They are forward thinking, quick to adapt, and technologically adept.
Risk specialist have a high level of exposure across HR and will work with executives and teams to create and implement innovative solutions to identify and mitigate potential risks to the Company. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated risk or process management professional with excellent problem solving, integrative thinking, prioritization and communication skills. Additionally, building win-win partnerships with multiple business stakeholders as well as across HR Associate Experiences and Centers of Excellence, while adapting to and managing change in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, are default essentials for this role.
Other Responsibilities Include:
Coordinates, executes and instills strong risk management practices throughout HR, serving as a thought partner to identify, socialize, and resolve key risks and issues identified through those activities to deliver a consistent and well-managed experience across the organization
Collaborates effectively with 2nd lines of defense (Compliance, Legal, Enterprise Risk Management, Operational Risk Management) and 3rd line of defense (Audit)
Proactively analyzes risk trends, identifying signs of changing risk levels and areas of emerging risk for the business unit including reporting on risk topics to management
Facilitate and support annual Process Level Assessments (PLAs) and annual/off-cycle Process Criticality Assessments (PCAs); discuss risk profiles with HR Business partners to ensure these assessments reflect the current business processes and practices; update the system of record FUSE to reflect the outcome of the assessments, notably risk descriptions and updates to the risks and controls documented in the system
Stays current on the changing regulatory environment and understand the impacts to HR business environment
Supports audits and regulatory exams of our business partners’ organizations, as applicable
Participates in risk forums and contributes to continuous improvement of risk management practices
Works with Legal and Compliance to assess HR’s employment legal environment and regulatory landscape
Basic Qualifications:
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent certification
At least 3 years of experience with Process Management or Project Management
At least 3 years of experience working in a Risk Management field
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or military experience
At least 4 years of experience in process management
At least 3 years experience working in an Agile Team environment
At least 3 years of experience with Business Process Management (BPM), Six Sigma or Lean process improvement techniques
At least 4 years of experience working in Risk Management
At least 3 years of experience in Human Resources
Strong problem-solving and conceptual skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience with Governance, Risk, and Compliance software tools (PRIME at Capital One)
Experience in controls development, controls management, and reporting activities
