The International Organizations Health (IOH) business Legal and Compliance team is primarily focused on supporting the European business and is a collaborative and high performing function which enjoys and values the support of the business. A vacancy has arisen within the team for a lawyer to support Cigna’s IOH business and the wider International Markets legal and compliance team.
As part of this team the successful candidate will be a valued subject matter expert and trusted business partner, asked to shape and stay involved in opportunities and projects from the outset. There will be opportunities to work with senior leaders including the Head of Legal for the IOH business, Chief European Counsel, the International Head of Privacy, the European Compliance Officer, and business leaders including the Senior Leadership Team of IOH. Externally there will be opportunities to work with law firms and interact with regulators applicable to the IOH business.
You will work closely with your colleagues in Legal and Compliance supporting the IOH business with good legal and regulatory advice supporting the operational, strategic and financial aims of the IOH business. The job content will be excitingly broad in line with the scope of the IOH business and in addition to your core skillset may include regulatory advice, contract work, litigation, insurance, advisory work, commercial law and corporate law.
ROLE SUMMARY
The successful applicant will be a dynamic, flexible, commercially-aware lawyer with previous exposure to the insurance or healthcare sectors (ideally minimum 3 -4 years). A good level of fluency in the English language is essential. French desirable.
The role is a varied one reporting into the Head of Legal IOH, duties will include assistance with drafting of contracts and other legal documentation, supporting the Sales and Client Management Teams in relation to new business acquisition, assisting the business with strategic projects and new product proposals and provision of general commercial, regulatory and policy-related legal advice. The role holder will also work closely with other Legal and allied teams (e.g. Compliance, Privacy, Risk) to support the business to achieve its aims and manage risks effectively. The role will also involve monitoring legislative and regulatory developments impacting Cigna’s businesses and working with colleagues in Europe and worldwide to implement legal and regulatory changes.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Legal support and advice to the IOH business;
- Drafting of contracts including policies, distribution agreements, outsourcing and supplier agreements, NDAs, ToBAs, appointed representative agreements.
- Supporting Sales in relation to new business acquisition (quote referrals);
- Advice to the business on regulatory issues, including FSMA / NBB.
- Working closely with Cigna legal colleagues in different geographies on common issues;
- Surveillance of legal developments affecting the business, and providing advice and assistance to the business in adapting to legal change.
- Pro-actively improving process and ways of working within the Cigna IOH Legal and Compliance team
QUALIFICATIONS
- Qualified lawyer in Spain with minimum 3-4 years experience, with a good training in either private practice or in-house.
- Previous exposure to insurance, especially health insurance essential.
- If not a native English speaker, the role holder will need a proficiency level of fluency in written and spoken English.
- Good level of French desirable
