Role Summary
The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for JANA (Japan, Asia North & Australia) is a senior executive responsible for driving results of a professional team managing the overall administrative activities of the business. This position serves as the Head of the Business Execution team for JANA, supporting and reporting to the Head of JANA Markets, with matrix reporting to the Global Markets Chief Operating Officer (COO). The role provides comprehensive functional, strategic, regulatory, leadership, and product development support across the Markets business for Japan, Asia North & Australia, with a particular focus on the unique dynamics and complex regulatory environment of the Asian and Emerging Markets. Key administrative tasks include oversight of external audits, business continuity, regulatory issue resolution, financial tracking, and headcount management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Business Execution team for JANA (Japan, Asia North & Australia) Markets, supporting and reporting directly to the Head of JANA Markets, with matrix reporting to the Global Markets Chief Operating Officer (COO).
- Provide functional, strategic, regulatory, leadership, and product development support across the Markets business for Japan, Asia North & Australia.
- Act as the primary interface to key functional partners such as Operations, Technology, Risk, and Finance for the JANA region.
- Oversee Country Business Execution and local supervision of Product Business Executions and Risk & Control functions as part of the Global Markets COO function.
- Design and implement the risk & control framework for the Markets business, ensuring full compliance with Citi policies and regulations relevant to the JANA region.
- Lead fiscal functions in accordance with relevant regional accounting standards, regulatory bodies, and serve as board liaison as required.
- Direct and evaluate the organization's fiscal, administrative, and regulatory performance within JANA.
- Evaluate and advise on the impact of programs, strategies, and regulatory actions, and provide financial and strategic input/analyses on issues affecting the organization such as contracts, budgets, financial reports, and financial trends specific to the JANA region.
- Enhance and enforce organizational policies, plans, and procedures, implementing systems that improve overall operational effectiveness across JANA.
- Foster a success-oriented, accountable environment within the organization, ensuring alignment with the company's overall strategy to meet organizational goals.
- Manage and develop diverse teams across different geographies, including responsibilities for talent acquisition, performance evaluation, and compensation.
- Drive compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, adhere to Policy, apply sound ethical judgment, and ensure transparent escalation and management of control issues.
Qualifications (Skills & Experience)
- 15+ years of relevant experience in a senior administrative or COO function within the financial industry, with a strong focus on Asia.
- Proven experience across different geographies, particularly within the JANA region.
- Experience in strategic planning and staff management within an international context.
- Comprehensive knowledge of general IT infrastructure, human capital management (HCM), and financial advice-related compliance within an Asian regulatory landscape.
- Demonstrated leadership and management abilities with a strong commitment to client and team member experience/development, and driving productivity across diverse teams.
- Expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, and cash flow management.
- Understanding of Asia / Emerging Markets dynamics and regulations.
- Consistently demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication across different cultures and business units.
- Consistently demonstrate flexibility, resourcefulness, and ability to work effectively as part of a team in complex environments (e.g., ambiguous, fast-moving) prevalent in Asia.
- Proven organizational development, personnel management, and resource development skills, with the ability to analyse organizational impact.
Education
- Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience.
- Master's degree preferred.
