Job Purpose:
Manage the recently established Citi Commercial Bank business in Canada. This role entails responsibility for developing and executing the business strategy for CCB in Canada and responsibility for the full P&L of the business to ensure sustainable and predictable earnings and excellent client experience. All of this must be achieved within a sound control environment in which the business operates.
Job Background / Context:
Citi is expanding its growing Commercial Banking business in Canada. The business serves predominantly the mid-sized corporate segment (client annual revenue of ~$100MM - $3BN) focused on a variety of growth industries with international banking needs. The CCB team complements Citi’s existing Corporate Banking, Investment Banking, Markets, and Private Bank businesses that have operated in Canada for 100+ years.
A good understanding of the industry and competitive market is necessary to realize the commercial objectives of the business. Excellent communication and negotiation skills required to negotiate externally and internally often at a senior level. Primary responsibilities are to build meaningful relationships while providing solutions for CCB Canada clients and prospects. A key element of this position is to work in close partnership with product groups, operations, and risk management at all levels (country, regional and global) to establish and build the CCB franchise and the local team in Canada.
Key Responsibilities
- Expand the CCB platform in Canada;
- Develop, implement and execute a business strategy with goal to support our organic growth targets leading to sustainable and predictable results;
- Focus on new business development - acquire new, multi-product clients for the Bank and manage those relationships on an ongoing basis. Own, respond to, uncover and anticipate future needs, roadblocks or risks and expectations;
- Grow market share in our key industries while looking for opportunities to expand the customer base;
- Full responsibility for P&L of the local CCB business, i.e. revenues, expenses, allocations, adequate returns on capital, as well as sound operating efficiency – drive a balanced scorecard;
- Develop a deep understanding of the local market and build long lasting relationships with clients and local authorities;
- Ensure that the right value proposition is developed while leveraging Citi’s capabilities and network;
- Establish pricing policies to drive adequate returns at the customer level;
- Responsibility for quality of the credit portfolio, origination in line with Target Market, prompt problem recognition;
- Partner with Independent Risk to ensure that the right credit approach (program and procedures) is in place to allow sound growth of the credit portfolio, avoid negative selection and maintain portfolio quality;
- Own, develop and maintain internal policies and procedures such as CCB Country Appendix, Early Warning Procedures, Operating Model. Complete any remaining internal approval processes allowing the business to be fully operational;
- Recruit, build out, manage, and motivate the team, ensuring an aligned organizational model, scorecards and KPIs to monitor business performance;
- Talent development, coaching and counselling of staff to provide stretch targets and fulfilling assignments;
- Alignment and close partnership / collaboration with product partners and other Citi coverage teams to ensure comprehensive solution delivery and continuous product development for CCB customers;
- Partner with Operations and Technology to ensure product delivery and excellent service;
- Represent CCB on internal governance committees in Canada
- Ensure sound quality of the credit portfolio and full compliance with credit policies and ensure a safe and sound control environment, with respect to compliance, legal and regulatory factors and closely manage KYC.

Knowledge/Experience:
- Minimum of ten years of corporate / commercial banking experience with meaningful experience operating in Canada. Direct lending or credit support related experience, with a focus on business relationships
- Business builder capable of creating vision and motivating the team;
- Canadian market knowledge and experience preferable;
- Proven track record of successfully managing a complex business with P&L management experience;
- Solid understanding of the different banking products;
- Superior knowledge and experience in credit risk management and structuring.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s/University Degree, preferred to have MBA or equivalent or Chartered Accountant / CFA / CPA;
- Senior Credit Officer or Senior Credit Officer candidate.
