Citi’s U.S. Commercial Bank (CCB) is a high‑growth platform serving emerging, mid‑market, and large companies with revenues ranging from $10 million to $3 billion. At the core of this model is Commercial Lending Management (CLM)—an in‑business, first‑line credit organization that partners directly with Coverage, Product, and Independent Risk to deliver disciplined underwriting, proactive portfolio management, and scalable credit solutions.

We are seeking a Director, In‑Business Credit Industry Head – Industrials & Services to lead credit strategy, underwriting standards, and portfolio risk management for one of Citi’s most diversified commercial industry portfolios.

This role reports directly to the U.S. Head of CLM and is based in New York or Chicago, Citi’s primary hubs for senior commercial credit leadership.

This is a director‑level role with material credit authority, broad leadership responsibility, and high visibility across the Commercial Bank.

Role Overview

The Industry Head is accountable for the end‑to‑end credit lifecycle across the Industrials & Services portfolio, including underwriting, structuring, documentation, and ongoing portfolio oversight. The role leads a large, experienced team of credit professionals and serves as a senior thought partner to Relationship Management, Syndications, Independent Risk, and Product leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Credit Strategy & Risk Ownership

  • Own approval oversight for a material level of credit exposure across Industrials & Services clients
  • Establish and maintain underwriting standards aligned with Citi’s risk appetite and regulatory expectations
  • Lead credit structuring, diligence, and approval processes for complex commercial transactions

Portfolio Management & Governance

  • Direct portfolio monitoring, including annual and quarterly reviews, covenant performance, and risk ratings
  • Proactively identify emerging sector risks and drive mitigation strategies
  • Ensure appropriate regulatory classification, loss minimization, and early problem recognition

Senior Stakeholder Partnership

  • Serve as a senior credit partner to Coverage, Syndications, Independent Risk, and Product teams
  • Lead strategic credit discussions and represent the portfolio in internal and external forums
  • Provide industry insights and credit perspectives to executive management

Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead, develop, and retain a high‑performing credit organization
  • Mentor senior credit officers and build succession pipelines
  • Champion development of industry‑specific credit expertise across CCB

Strategic Initiatives & Controls

  • Sponsor and lead U.S. and global CLM initiatives, including process and policy evolution
  • Maintain strong governance and controls as a First Line of Defense leader
  • Identify and remediate control gaps and drive continuous improvement

Qualifications & Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in senior credit decision‑making roles within a large financial institution
  • Extensive experience underwriting and managing complex commercial credit portfolios
  • Deep knowledge of Industrials, Services, or diversified commercial sectors
  • Proven track record leading and developing large credit teams
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment with significant approval authority
  • Prior Senior Credit Officer or Director‑level authority
  • Experience across a broad range of commercial lending products
  • Advanced degree or formal credit training a plus
