This is a senior attorney role to lead the negotiation and execution of derivatives documentation supporting our global trading activities. This role will serve as a key partner to front office, risk, and legal teams, managing complex ISDA agreements and advising on legal and regulatory risk across OTC derivatives transactions.
The position requires deep expertise in ISDA Master Agreements, collateral documentation, and derivatives market practice, along with strong stakeholder management and negotiation capabilities.
Responsibilities:
Serve as lead negotiator and subject matter expert for ISDA Master Agreements, Schedules, Credit Support Annexes (CSAs), and related derivatives and collateral documentation; manage complex, bespoke negotiations across the full documentation lifecycle
Provide legal counsel and guidance to Markets business stakeholders, interpreting applicable laws, rules, regulations, and industry practices and delivering commercially practical, risk-appropriate solutions
Advise senior management on legal matters impacting trading activities, client relationships, and strategic initiatives, contributing informed, business-oriented perspectives to decision-making
Identify, evaluate, and manage legal, regulatory, and reputational risk in coordination with Legal, Risk, and ICRM; ensure alignment with internal policies and applicable regulatory requirements
Objectively assess business proposals against institutional risk appetite, regulatory frameworks, and market standards, escalating issues as appropriate
Collaborate closely with Trading, Sales, Credit, Risk, Operations, and Legal teams across regions to deliver coordinated, efficient, and consistent outcomes
Oversee day-to-day legal and documentation activities as a subject matter expert, ensuring timely execution and appropriate escalation of complex or high-risk matters
Contribute to strategic planning and development initiatives for Markets Contract Negotiations, providing thought leadership based on deep knowledge of derivatives markets and regulatory developments
Drive process improvements, standardization, and efficiency in documentation workflows, negotiation strategies, and operational practices
Monitor and manage complex legal issues and transactions, ensuring transparency, strong governance, and effective resolution
Uphold the highest standards of professional conduct and ethical judgment; safeguard the firm, its clients, and assets by promoting compliance, accountability, and a strong control environment
Qualifications:
10+ years of relevant industry experience, preferably in financial services; managerial experience is preferred
Demonstrated experience negotiating ISDA Master Agreements and Futures/Clearing contracts is required
Banking or financial industry experience, including laws related to banking regulations
Knowledge of international laws, regulations and practices while staying abreast of regulatory and legal environment, internal policies and industry trends that impact the business
Experience with complex deals, demonstrated ability to analyze issues and develop legal solutions
Effective communication and negotiation skills and ability to build and maintain trusted relationships
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and relationship management skills
Proven ability to apply sound judgement while managing assignments in a demanding, fast-paced environment
Bar license in good standing to practice law
Education:
Juris Doctorate or equivalent law degree required
