Reporting to the Head of Middle Office APAC, the Middle Office accounting senior manager is responsible for providing leadership and direction to a team of Middle Office accountants across a range of Middle Office accounting and valuations activity. The overall objective of the role is to ensure the accurate and timely delivery of the Net Asset Valuations (NAVs).

The successful candidate will have a strong background in Middle Office accounting with proven client and team management. They will be able to demonstrate excellent industry product and subject matter knowledge and a proven track record in key areas including leadership, process improvement, stakeholder management, client engagement and change delivery.

A core expectation of the successful candidate will be to act as succession and coverage to the Middle Office accounting senior manager.

In this role, you’re expected to:

  • Team Leadership & People Management: Lead and develop a high-performing team of accounting professionals to accomplish established goals, conducting all personnel duties including performance evaluations, hiring decisions, and disciplinary actions. Foster achievement through structured SMART goal setting and provide coaching frameworks to support individual and team growth.
  • NAV Oversight & Escalation Management: Serve as the final escalation authority for complex Net Asset Value (NAV) issues prior to fund release, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and risk mitigation across all fund types.
  • Culture & Leadership Development: Champion a positive, inclusive, and dynamic team culture. Ensure people managers within the team demonstrate strong leadership behaviours and are actively invested in the professional development of their direct reports.
  • Continuous Improvement & Operational Efficiency: Drive a culture of continual improvement within the department to identify and deliver operational efficiencies. Implement enhanced controls to reduce risk, improve timeliness, and lower the cost-to-serve across the IBOR function.
  • Technology, Systems & Client Enhancement: Create, develop, and maintain strong business relationships. Identify and implement service, system, and process enhancements; lead and evaluate system testing; and train staff on new technology advancements to ensure the team remains at the forefront of operational capability.
  • AI Awareness & Digital Innovation: Demonstrate a working understanding of Artificial Intelligence tools, automation technologies, and data-driven solutions as they apply to fund accounting and IBOR operations. Actively promote the adoption of AI-enabled efficiencies and support the team in developing digital literacy to enhance productivity and decision-making.
  • OTC Product Knowledge: Apply a sound understanding of Over-the-Counter (OTC) derivative products — including but not limited to interest rate swaps, credit default swaps, FX forwards, and options — within the context of fund accounting, NAV calculation, and IBOR processing. Ensure the team is equipped to handle the complexities associated with OTC instrument pricing, valuation, and lifecycle events.
  • Strategic Planning & Performance Management: Support the development and achievement of strategic goals and the annual performance and compensation cycle. Implement methods to manage and reduce expenses, recommend enhancements to operational models, and clearly articulate and justify associated business benefits.
  • Risk Management & Compliance: Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and the safeguarding of Citigroup, its clients, and assets. Drive compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations; adhere to Policy; and apply sound ethical judgment in all aspects of personal and professional conduct.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Champion a culture of collaboration with cross-functional teams — including Operations, Technology, Risk, Compliance, and Client Services — to ensure the successful and timely delivery of client requirements.
  • Error Management & Control Framework: Monitor errors, complaints, and near-miss incidents. Drive forward meaningful changes to strengthen the control environment and prevent recurrence of operational failures.
  • Documentation & Procedural Governance: Ensure comprehensive documentation exists for all client-specific procedures. Complete timely reviews per internal policy and ensure all documentation remains current, accurate, and accessible.
  • Regulatory & Fund Compliance: Ensure 100% adherence to SOC1 requirements, fund offer documentation, procedures, policies, and guidelines across all administered funds.
  • Departmental Management Contribution: Contribute effectively to the departmental management group, playing an active role in continuously and positively developing the broader IBOR accounting function.
  • Project & Transformation Management: Lead and manage assigned cross-departmental and regional project and transformation initiatives, ensuring delivery within agreed timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

As a successful candidate, you’d ideally have the following skills and exposure:

  • Bachelor’s/University degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 10+ years’ experience in Fund Accounting / IBOR, with at least 4 in a management capacity
  • Strong client focus with an ability to evaluate needs and develop solutions
  • Excellent (fund accounting) product knowledge is required. This should include understanding of fund structures, financial instruments, regulatory environment and funds industry.
  • Leadership. Able to lead a team, managing issues arising, ensuring resource is trained and competent and establishing a positive working culture
