Position Summary
Columbia University Irving Medical Center’s Department of Medicine is seeking a dedicated Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join the outpatient practice at NYP/Columbia University within the Division of Rheumatology & Clinical Immunology. This role primarily focuses on the diagnosis and management of arthritis and other rheumatologic conditions, under the guidance and supervision of the Center Director. The APP will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team including physicians, fellow APPs, registered nurses, and administrative staff to deliver comprehensive, high-quality care to patients.
Responsibilities
- Provide patient care both independently and in collaboration with the clinical team
- Conduct thorough patient histories and physical examinations (comprehensive and targeted)
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests; manage acute and chronic conditions
- Triage and address clinical inquiries and concerns from patients
- Prescribe medications and document all patient interactions in the EMR
- Review external medical records and collaborate with physicians to revise treatment plans as needed
- Educate patients and caregivers on disease processes and outpatient care strategies
- Offer guidance on treatment protocols and medication regimens
- Place orders and provide clinical oversight for patients receiving IV therapies in the infusion center
- Support clinical research efforts by coordinating and implementing trials involving human subjects
- Screen and enroll patients in clinical trials in accordance with study protocols
- Independently perform study-related procedures and maintain accurate case report documentation
- Supervise, train, and manage research staff and student volunteers
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
For NPs
- Master's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus one to two years of experience
- Current New York State NP (or proof of application) and RN licenses
- Acute Care Board certification
- Eligible for DEA license
- BLS certification
For PAs:
- Bachelor's degree in physician assistant studies or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of experience
- Master's degree can substitute in part for experience
- Current New York State PA license (or proof of application)
- NCCPA certification
- Eligible for DEA license
- BLS certification
Other Requirements
- Medical clearance and participation in Medical Surveillance program required
- Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
