The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of Tutoring and Academic Support, the Associate Director is responsible for managing the daily operations of tutoring and peer consulting programs and the development, implementation, and coordination of other academic support programming.

The Associate Director provides support for Academic Resources in Support of Excellence (ARISE) programming, liaises with advising deans, faculty and other constituencies regarding academic support for individual students and works closely in collaboration with the Senior Associate Director in the oversight of student staff and the implementation of new initiatives.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct orientation and education of students about ARISE services, resources, and processes.

  • Oversee the marketing of the program, including developing promotional material, managing the website, and leading outreach.

  • Assist the Senior Associate Director with hiring and managing the tutor and consultant staff.

    • Co-manage academic support student staffing, assisting the Senior Associate Director with recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and management of tutors each term. Conduct training and other professional development opportunities for tutors.

    • Observe tutoring and consulting sessions and then provide critical feedback to tutors regarding their performance.

    • Process and approve biweekly payroll

    • Maintain and develop tutor/consultant training and resources material in Courseworks

  • Lead the tutoring and consulting approval and scheduling process, including reviewing and approving requests, and entering new users into the WCOnlinet scheduling software system.

  • Manage room reservations and maintains materials in tutor spaces

  • Lead outreach to students who have requested tutoring but have not utilized the service, if relevant meet with students to ensure their needs are being met.

  • Assess demand and utilization of tutoring services on a continuous basis, providing reports to the Senior Associate Director to inform decisions about staffing needs.

  • Assist with various reporting initiatives including end-of-semester usage data reports from WCOnline, student academic action and tutor utilization.

  • Manage Academic Action Self-Assessment procedure and collection. Liaise with CSA advising deans to update and enhance this advising tool.

  • Develop and implement new programming initiatives for ARISE. Duties include developing content, recruiting speakers, managing logistics, marketing, reconciling budget, compiling program attendance, performing assessments and evaluations, and maintaining program archives.

  • Manage marketing and communications for ARISE, answer general questions regarding activities related to academic support, coordinates with academic departments to recruit tutors and to advertise academic support offered outside of the CSA Tutoring program. Manage and publicize events and workshops, while coordinating other forms of outreach to students and the community at large, including website and social media content.

  • Assist in mentoring peer consultants in their development of programming for academic skill building – including time management, study skills, effective note-taking etc.

  • Co-teach a weekly time management support group (Getting Things Done).

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ degree and/or equivalent related experience
  • Minimum of three to five years relevant experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer and data analysis proficiency
  • Knowledge of student development theory, ability to work with diverse student populations, and a proactive approach to student support
  • Strong communication and organizational skills are essential
  • Must possess both creativity and flexibility
  • Professionalism in handling a wide range of tasks, as well as attention to detail
  • Capacity to work independently on multiple projects and to prioritize appropriately

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree preferred
  • Familiarity with Generative AI tools
  • Experience with marketing and website maintenance highly desirable
  • Knowledge of advanced tasks in the MS Office Suite, specifically Excel
  • Experience in learning services and supervising others
