We are looking for an Associate Food Scientist (Meat/Strategic Research) to join our R&D Team in Omaha, Nebraska!

Located along the Missouri River, our Omaha office is within walking distance to downtown shops and restaurants. Join us for yoga or strength training classes offered at the onsite fitness center. Conagra's R&D facilities in Omaha are state-of-the-art, including a large super lab, open benchtop space for prototype development, a top-of-the-line culinary kitchen, and a 50,000 square foot pilot plant.

This is a great opportunity to draw upon your education and experience to begin or expand your career in Food Science! As an Associate Food Scientist (Meat/Strategic Research), reporting to the Research Fellow, you will be a key member of the Strategic Research Team, conducting focused research to discover new ways to formulate and process our food products. This role works across all Conagra Brands business platforms to contributing significantly to the attainment of business results. Impact will be created through the generation and application of specialized knowledge in meat science & technology therefore, education and course work in muscle structure and the conversion of muscle to meat is a necessary foundation for this job. You will play a leading role in the management of over $400 Million annual spend for red meat and poultry.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop and issue Consumer Based Specifications for formula, processing and raw ingredient specifications.

  • Execute experiments and prepare results for review.

  • Learn how to plan and coordinate project work with other disciplines and functions

  • Conduct plant trials and new product start-ups.

  • Plan, prioritize and complete tasks while maintaining accurate and complete records

  • Work with pilot plant equipment under guidance

  • Learn and utilize on-line specification system.

  • Understand the consumer demand spaces and develop new products prototypes to appeal to customers

  • Conceptualize and develop new products prototypes.

  • Maintains a clean, organized and safe work area, including the cleaning of equipment, utensils and work surfaces.

Position Requirements:

  • BS in Animal or Food Science or related field required.

  • Formal course work and understanding of muscle structure and conversion of muscle to meat.

  • Pro-active self-starter, willing to accept responsibility for business tasks.

  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software.

  • Problem solving skills.

  • Requires knowledge in food product design, formulation, ingredient functionality and interaction, process design, product scale-up, plant testing and commercialization.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work in and around cramped/confined spaces.

  • Climbing to various heights via stairs or ladders

  • Exposure to manufacturing environments for periodic extended workdays to include loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, and slippery conditions.

  • Use of tools, equipment, and machinery

  • Driving a company or rental vehicle for up to 6 hours as needed

  • May travel up to 30% of time. Must be able to travel independently and as a responsible CAG representative.

  • Exposure to food tasting and smells including all food allergens.

We require applicants for this role to be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring employer sponsorship either now or in the future.

This position is usually in the office Monday - Thursday (with some remote flexibility those days). Fridays are usually remote.
