We are looking for a Senior Food Scientist (Meat/Strategic Research) to join our R&D Team in Omaha, Nebraska!

As a Senior Food Scientist (Meat/Strategic Research), reporting to the Research Fellow, you will be a key member of the Strategic Research Team, providing technical expertise and leadership to functional groups across all Conagra Brands business platforms to directly influence the achievement of business objectives. This impact will be achieved through the generation and application of advanced specialized knowledge in meat science & technology, therefore, education and course work in muscle structure and the conversion of muscle to meat is a necessary foundation to be successful in this role. The Strategic Research Team executes focused research to discover new ways to formulate and process our food products. You will provide leadership to guide Conagra Brands' annual $400 million spend on red meat and poultry materials.

Position Responsibilities

  • Raw material selection and product formulation.

  • Process development and requirement specification.

  • Develop and issue consumer based specifications for formula, processing and raw ingredients.

  • Apply knowledge of meat science and maintain awareness of external technical developments in the field.

  • Design and conduct plant trials and new product start-ups

  • Creates product development schedules that are required to meet project timelines.

  • Maintain accurate and complete records

  • Work with pilot plant equipment

  • Learn and utilize on-line specification system.

  • Design and execute experiments and prepare results for review.

  • Drive product cuttings, plant trials, and testing

  • Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work area, including the cleaning of equipment, utensils and work surfaces.

  • Manage other food scientists or technologists.

Position Requirements

  • BS in Animal (Meat) or Food Science.

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience

  • Formal course work and thorough understanding of muscle structure and the conversion of muscle to meat.

  • Exhibit leadership and proactive attitudes in approaching technical solutions to business and market issues.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Demonstrate ability to communicate well and to effectively influence and interact with others to accomplish research goals.

  • Demonstrated presentation skills, both oral and written

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software

  • Problem solving skills.

  • Effective relationship building skills, both internally and externally, to achieve strong partnership and collaboration.

  • Requires knowledge in food product design, formulation, ingredient functionality and interaction, process design, product scale-up, plant testing and commercialization.

  • Good understanding of food industry standards of quality and foods safety, and FDA regulations.

  • Experience with government regulatory requirements in the processing of food

Physical Requirements

  • Work in and around cramped/confined spaces.

  • Climbing to various heights via stairs or ladders

  • Exposure to manufacturing environments for periodic extended workdays to include loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, and slippery conditions.

  • Use of tools, equipment, and machinery

  • May travel up to 30% of time. Must be able to travel independently and as a responsible CAG representative.

  • Exposure to food tasting and smells including all food allergens.

Number of Days in Office: 3-4. Fridays are usually remote.
