We are looking for a Food Scientist specializing in functional ingredients to join our team in Omaha, Nebraska!
As a Food Scientist, reporting to the Research Fellow, you will contribute to food product development with the application of ingredient science and a deep understanding of functional ingredients (gums, starches, proteins, emulsifiers) and their applications. With your advanced knowledge of food science & technology, you will research, conduct experiments, gather data, develop preliminary findings and prepare written reports for the development of new products beginning at conception through successful commercialization. This will be accomplished by selecting the appropriate methods, tests and procedures for testing.
Develop new products beginning at the concept phase through successful commercialization
Design and conduct plant trials and new product startups
Evaluate new Ingredient technology and processing for development of products.
Apply functional ingredient knowledge to many applications for product development or cost savings.
Create product development schedules that are required to meet project timelines
Work with pilot plant equipment
Learn and use online specification system
Design and execute experiments and prepare results for review
Conceptualize and develop new products prototypes
Manages individual tasks and works
Drive product cuttings, plant trials, and testing
BS/MS in Food Science or related field. PhD preferred
3+ years of relevant work experience
Wide application experience with understanding of ingredient functionality and interactions.
Requires knowledge in food product design, formulation, food chemistry, ingredient functionality and interactions, process design, product scale-up, plant testing and commercialization
Experience with food industry standards of quality and foods safety, and FDA regulations.
Work in and around cramped/confined spaces
Climb to various heights via stairs or ladders
Exposure to manufacturing environments for periodic extended workdays including loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, and slippery conditions.
Use tools, equipment, and machinery
May travel up to 10% of time.
Exposure to food tasting and smells including all food allergens
We require applicants for this role to be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring employer sponsorship either now or in the future.
This position is usually in the office Monday - Thursday (with some remote flexibility those days). Fridays are typically remote.
