Summary

The primary function of this position is to ensure the plant facilities/utilities systems are maintained operational, identify and follow through on repairs, and maintain plant operational equipment. This position will also require a stationary engineering license to relieve boiler operators.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Will cover the stationary engineers or facilities/utilities technicians’ absences on a regular basis on all three shifts.
  • Will plan alternate activities to maximize opportunity and take advantage of the unscheduled downtime or work delays.
  • Will order overhaul and spare parts as needed.
  • Will troubleshoot to repair and install electrical/mechanical equipment.
  • Will participate in plant facilities and utilities such as Ammonia Refrigeration System, PSM Program, Air Compressor System, Sanitary Waste Water Drain Systems, Nitrogen Systems, Fire Sprinkler System, Pump Systems, City Water Systems, Waste Water Plant, HVAC System, Fryer Burner & Safety Systems, Boiler and Steam Systems, Hot Water and High Pressure Systems, Cooker Temperature and Pressure Controls, Plumbing and Repairs.
  • Will be required to confer with production, central engineering, R&D, contractors, and other operation groups to assist in starting new processes, lines, or plant trials.
  • Maintain records and inventories as required and keep an orderly and clean work area.
  • Will comply with all company safety policies and procedures as well as comply with all OSHA rules and regulations (THINK SAFETY FIRST).
  • Will lead by example with coworkers.
  • Will adhere to good manufacturing practices (GMP), including proper waste disposal, attire, grooming & hygiene, etc.
  • Will comply with 5S requirements.
  • Will comply with the plant Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) policy and implement the correct procedure for the LOTO of machines operated.
  • At the end of the shift, clean and secure all equipment.
  • Perform miscellaneous related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must satisfactorily perform their essential duties. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must have a 2-year technical degree in a related field or equivalent on-the-job experience.
  • Must obtain a minimum of a 3rd Class Steam Engineering license.
  • Must possess a high level of machine troubleshooting ability in a manufacturing environment, including but not limited to: Allen Bradley PLC’s, Frequency Drives, Pneumatics, Hydraulics, Servo Motors, Refrigeration systems (NH3), Boiler systems, and HVAC systems.
  • Food Manufacturing experience, Sanitary Design experience, and knowledge of SIX SIGMA techniques such as 5-S would be a plus.
  • Must have strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Must operate with a high degree of proficiency with little or no supervision, particularly as such involves the specific trade area.
  • Must be willing to learn SAP, LEDS, and Infinity, and be able to demonstrate ability.
  • Must be able to design, build, construct, troubleshoot, repair, maintain, set up, or adjust machinery, equipment, parts, vehicles, or structures.
  • Must be a motivated team player.
  • Journeyman card preferred.

Additional advancement opportunities

  • Positions may be offered at Tradesman, Journeymen, or Craftsman levels. Must be able to progress to top Craftsman. Refer to CBA for pay guidelines.
  • Tradesman will progress to Journeymen after completion of 2,000 hours. Journeyman will progress to Craftsman after completion of an additional 3,000 hours.
  • Opportunity for Certified pay with additional requirements.
