Job Description:
TD Asset Management (TDAM), a member of TD Bank Financial Group, is a leading North American investment manager offering progressive investment solutions to both institutional and individual investors. For over two decades, the organization has established competitive market positions in active, quantitative, and passive portfolio management. As of June 30, 2024, TDAM and its affiliates manage over $434 billion in assets on behalf of pension, insurance, endowment/foundation, and corporate clients, as well as high-net worth clients and retail mutual funds.
In attaining this client commitment, TDAM has built one of Canada’s largest and most respected investment management and research teams with more than 220 Portfolio Managers, Associate Portfolio Managers, Traders and Analysts.
The Institutional Product team within TD Asset Management is responsible for the product strategy and development of TD's entire institutional product portfolio. The team’s mandate is as follows:
- Develop a solid understanding of markets, competitors, product and regulatory trends and client needs to effectively inform decisions on new product concepts
- Synthesize data on emerging medium and long term product development trends to inform product roadmap
- Develop products for various countries and regions to profitably grow market share
- Provide a high level of support to our Relationship Management and Client Service groups
- On-going product management ensuring our investment solutions remain competitive and compliant with regulatory requirements
Position Summary:
The Vice President (Manager), TDAM Institutional Product is responsible for supporting all aspects of product management for the private asset institutional product shelf (global – distributed across regions in North America, Europe and Asia Pacific), including implementation of new products and product changes, product innovation and positioning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the senior member of the Private Assets product management team, including potential people management and provide guidance to junior team members
- Act as a subject matter expert on product structures, including global fund structures such as Unit Trusts, CITs, SCSPs, LLCs, LP/GP structures, ICAV/SICAV, UCITS, etc.
- Manage day to day activities for management of Fund suite, including operational set up and issue resolution, offering circular management, end to end oversight on Fund suite (performance, regulatory requirements, investment strategy, distribution, asset flows, legal documents, board meetings etc.)
- Help define and build the business case for new product development initiatives through assembling fact-based arguments and providing competitive insights
- Manage regulatory filings and requirements for Funds in jurisdictions in North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific
- Act as the project lead to implement new products, including the coordination of internal partners and external service providers to ensure operational readiness
- Meet with internal and external stakeholders to identify product gaps
- Have an understanding of TDAM's general investment philosophy, investment styles, and product structures
- Work closely with internal control partners to mitigate risks while executing
- with speed to market
- Support product strategy team, including competitive research and analysis, including making meaningful recommendations to promote the development of new product concepts
Key Interactions:
The following interactions constitute an integral part of this position:
- Direct report to the Vice President & Director, Corporate Strategy & Global Institutional Product
- Executives, relationship managers and other investment professionals across TD Wealth and TD Bank, including those in non-domestic jurisdictions
- Collaborate with internal partners including Business Management and Solutions, Corporate Strategy, Product Design, Portfolio Management, Client Portfolio Managers, Sales, Legal, Sales Strategy and Communications, Finance, Compliance, Operations and Marketing
- 3rd Party vendor relationships
Role-Specific Skills & Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of related industry experience preferred with at least 3 years of experience in an institutional product development function within the asset management industry required
- Experience with alternatives, including real assets required
- Experience reviewing offering circulars, including deep understanding of fund features (e.g. redemption/subscription policies, distribution policies, and other mechanisms) is required
- Knowledge of Canadian institutional investment product related vehicles including a working knowledge of major investment strategies and styles employed by fixed income, equity and alternative portfolio managers is required
- Knowledge of global investment fund structures, such as limited partnerships, LLCs, offshore feeders, UCITs is required
- Preference given to candidates with product development experience across various asset classes and vehicles
- Demonstrated experience engaging in complex investment product launches with multiple stakeholders
- A working knowledge of regulatory and compliance issues, fund accounting and performance/portfolio reporting principles
Table-stakes Skillsets:
- Strong leadership skills
- CFA required, or commensurate experience
- Although not a direct people manager role, preference given to candidates with some people management experience due to dotted-line team structure
- Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills, with an ability to interact with all levels of the organization
- Excellent analytic, problem-solving and quantitative skills, with exceptional attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal skills in interacting with various stakeholders within the firm, other members of the product team
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to prioritize many projects simultaneously
- Ability to deal with ambiguity and change
- Undergraduate degree required
