Job Description:

Department Overview:

The Senior L&D Project Manager is responsible for leading the end-to-end planning and execution of medium-to-high complexity L&D projects which entail design, development, and delivery of internal or outsourced enterprise-wide and business-specific solutions. The successful candidate will effectively leverage project management methodologies, processes, and tools & technologies to establish clarity of vision and a detailed execution plan throughout each project life cycle. The day to day could entail the following:

  • Develop an understanding of overall portfolio/program movement with individual lines of business and rationalize how the assigned projects fit with business priorities in the long term
  • Drive L&D processes to implement learning solutions in various formats including but not limited to in-person or virtual Instructor-led training (ILT), eLearning, webinars, self-directed learner pathways, and workshops
  • Lead the end-to-end planning and execution of medium-to-high complexity L&D projects, leveraging key project management tools to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget
  • Support the vendor selection, engagement and onboarding process when third-party learning solutions are within scope
  • Develop and implement effective stakeholder engagement strategies
  • Ensure tight governance control and actively manage/resolve risks and issues
  • Build relationships and maintain regular communications with internal and external stakeholders
  • Report on project progress with project teams and business stakeholders at different levels
  • In partnership with L&D CoEs and business partners, support the development of a delivery strategy, change & launch communications plan, and maintenance plan
  • Ensure tight governance control and actively manage/resolve risks and issues
  • Conduct project retrospectives and act on lessons learned for continuous improvement

Depth & Scope:

  • Develops proposals / recommendations related to policies and practices within own specialized area
  • Serves as key contact
  • Works on a range of complex issues / programs / policies in the day to day management of HR policies / practices
  • Supports the integration / implementation of HR programs across client groups
  • Works closely and effectively with assigned HR partners to ensure business needs are met
  • Understands alignment between own discipline and other specialized areas
  • Interprets data and assesses the risk associated with policies/programs; escalates as required
  • May lead a team of Human Resources professionals
  • Ensures business partners and Human Resources are provided with high quality advice and support
  • Shares expert knowledge, provide advice and counsel to business management and Human Resources teams
  • Monitors and communicates the effectiveness of strategies, programs, and practices related to own area of expertise
  • Ensures programs and practices continue to meet business needs, comply with internal and external requirements, and align with Human Resources priorities
  • Develops and manages a team of high quality resources through recruitment, training, coaching, and performance management
  • Provides input to the departments business plan and monitor actual results
  • Leads and follows-up on action planning to address Employee survey results
  • Analyzes and interprets information; provide opinions and recommendations, and refer complex issues as appropriate
  • Ensures integration of other areas of expertise in the development and delivery of programs and policies, as appropriate
  • Ensures post implementation reviews are conducted; recommend or take action as appropriate


Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree or progressive work experience in addition to experience below
  • 7+ Years of related experience
  • In depth knowledge of a specialized Human Resources function
  • Strong communication, facilitation and presentation skills
  • Ability to deal with all levels of management
  • Strong Customer service orientation and ability to establish strong working relationships with internal and external clients

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7-10 years of experience in project management, preferably in a learning or adult training environment
  • Prior L&D experience in performance consulting, design, development, facilitation, and/or learning technologies is beneficial
  • Thorough understanding of project management frameworks and methodologies
  • PMP certification is preferred
  • Agile and/or Scrum certification is an asset
  • Practical knowledge in adult learning principles for various delivery methods
  • Proven track record of delivering results and commitment to operational and service excellence
  • Strong client focus with ability to listen and quickly learn about various clients and become a trusted advisor on delivery learning solutions successfully
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects concurrently with changing business priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and build relationships effectively, leveraging sound communication, negotiation, consensus-building and influencing skills
  • Ability to tailor communications to different stakeholders at different levels
  • Solutions-focused, "can-do" attitude to foster positive team morale and high engagement
  • Excel in translating business needs into learning requirements in collaboration with L&D partners
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Highly adaptable and flexible with ability to take initiative in a dynamic work environment
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite, especially MS Project
  • Competency in team meeting facilitation in virtual environments leveraging collaboration tools such as MS Teams and Webex
  • Experience with LMS and LXP is a bonus
  • Experience with eLearning tools and standards (e.g., SCORM, xAPI, HTML 5) and development software (e.g., Articulate Storyline/Rice) is a nice to have
