The mandate of the Tax Operations team is to ensure various TD legal entities in the wholesale business are compliant from an IRS perspective. The team focuses their initiatives around Internal Revenue Code Chapters 3, 4 and 61, as well as CRS compliance and FATCA/CRS client due diligence.

The TDS tax operations team interfaces with various teams in London, Singapore, New York & Canada who work collaboratively to maintain compliance in all the regions in which TD Securities operates. The Tax Ops team is responsible for tax form due diligence, withholding and information reporting to the IRS and non-US tax authorities.

Role Details:

TD Securities Tax Operations Analysts manage daily and periodic processes to maintain compliance with all applicable tax regulations in the jurisdictions where TD Securities operates. This includes cross-functional processes centered around onboarding, client due diligence, document validation, client and regulatory reporting. Analysts are expected to be proficient with IRC Chapters 3, 4 and 61, and CRS due diligence requirements.

As a level-2 analyst, the candidate will be expected to take a leadership role in driving change within the team, interfacing with stakeholders within TD on regulatory projects and process enhancements, while maintaining a high level of productivity in BAU tasks.

This role will appeal to an individual who has good interpersonal and organizational skills and is comfortable taking personal initiative to identify opportunities for enhancement and drive change while effectively completing BAU tasks.

Job Accountabilities

  • Complete tax-related processes across multiple TD legal entities and business lines
  • Provide subject matter expertise and operational support related to FATCA and the OECD's Common Reporting Standard
  • Interface with tax stakeholders within Operations, Middle Office, Compliance and Regulatory/Strategic Change to ensure efficiency and compliance for tax-related processes
  • Ensure appropriate and timely identification and escalation of issues related to tax processes
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable SLAs
  • Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction with both internal and external customers


Job Requirements

  • Subject matter expertise in IRC Chapters 3, 4 and 61, OECD CRS guidelines, and IRS tax withholding and income reporting requirements
  • Working knowledge of MS Excel, including functions such as VLOOKUP
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in operational tax or regulatory compliance

The Operations Analyst TDS handles corporate actions, daily cash reconciliation, tracking file uploads into FIST, and is a DTC clearance specialist. Responsibilities include the clearance of London trading activity passing through US broker/dealers. The Operations Analyst TDS advises agent of ticket control numbers for confirmations and performs required system maintenance. In addition, the position maintains compliance files and verifies new clients are set up on FIST, acknowledging that settlement and other client instructions are complete.

Depth & Scope

  • Participates in the identification, development and implementation of new products, operating workflow, additional services/applications or operational efficiencies for Global Business Services
  • Identifies documents, investigates and resolves service delivery issues
  • Manages relationships with the client, and other areas of TDS / GBS
  • Participates in projects follows project management methodologies, communicates project status and provides timely escalation of issues to senior management to ensure project objectives are met
  • Interfaces with regulators, external groups (legal firms, accountants etc.), suppliers on operating and service delivery issues relative to the specific area of functional expertise as authorized by the manager
  • Escalates non-standard or high risk transactions or other activities as appropriate
  • Acquires and applies knowledge in the discipline, provides assistance and direction to others in TD Securities
  • Identifies, recommends and effectively executes standard practices applicable to the discipline
  • Protects the interests of the firm identify and manage risks
  • Completes business process reviews as required
  • Participates fully as a member of the team, promotes team effectiveness and contributes to a positive work environment
  • Supports the team by continuously developing knowledge in own area
  • Participates in performance management and development activities
  • Supports change management activities around projects or initiatives undertaken ensures clear communication of new processes
  • Ensures the timely communication of issues that are relevant to the team and encourages a good working relationship with other departments
  • Supports the business with consistent application of BSA/AML risk escalation, review and approval processes, KYC due diligence and policies
  • Contributes to the development, implementation and continuous improvement of programs, processes, policies and tools to meet BSA/AML requirements and industry best practices
  • Continuously develops/maintains solid knowledge of BSA/AML/OFAC requirements, developments and issues within the Operations department


Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree, or specialized training / equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years related experience
  • Must possess a complete understanding of the products traded by TD Securities (USA) Inc.
  • Must also understand systems interfaces, payment and funding processes, compensation rules, and NASD/SEC issues
  • Should be able to work independently with minimal supervision, establish priorities, and possess strong communication, analytical, and problem solving skills
  • Solid computer skills are a must
