Electronic Systems Product Specialist

DESCRIPTION
This product-focused position tailors electronic and electrical systems for Cummins products. The role involves translating product requirements into hardware and software technical specifications, which control the operation of Cummins’ products in a variety of customer applications. Responsibilities include configuring, tuning, and conducting comprehensive validation testing of fully integrated hardware and software systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Investigate electronic application and systems problems, understand causal mechanisms, recommend appropriate actions, and document results.
Apply and improve electronic application and systems development processes and tools, including system specification, modeling, simulation, calibration, Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R), and troubleshooting.
Utilize tools for simulation, calibration, and product lifecycle maintenance.
Gather input from customers, technical and product teams, manufacturing engineers, supplier partners, and other stakeholders to provide recommendations for quality product decisions.
Make decisions regarding electronic and electrical system design, requirements, calibration, and testing to impact subsystem and feature-class performance.
Review the work of less-experienced developers and testers to ensure robust, reusable, and efficient designs.
Lead smaller projects or own complex components, systems, or services with greater elements of ambiguity, ensuring accountability to the project team.
Independently execute established work processes while developing product or technology knowledge.
Coordinate and direct work among technicians and temporary employees, transferring knowledge to less-experienced engineers.
Provide guidance and support to influence technical direction within project teams.
Operate as a recognized specialist in specific disciplines or product areas within the immediate team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Experience:
Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline.
Demonstrated track record of technical problem-solving and quality decision-making.
Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred.
Knowledge/Skills:
System Design & Integration: Develop and customize electronic and electrical systems, including ECM, PCC, PSO, Telematics Gateways, Cybersecurity, BESS, Buck-Boost converters, and inverters.
System Modeling & Simulation: Proficient in Homerpro, Xendee, Matlab, and in-house tools for designing and optimizing BESS and power electronics systems.
Compliance & Safety: Ensure designs comply with UL, IEC, IEEE standards, with a focus on battery safety and longevity.
Requirements Translation & Specification: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate product requirements into technical specifications.
Validation & Testing: Lead testing and validation plans for integrated hardware and software systems.
Product Optimization: Drive performance, cost, and reliability optimization.
Customer Collaboration: Engage with stakeholders to gather input and provide technical recommendations.
Continuous Improvement: Improve system design and development processes.

Design and Application of Mechatronics Systems: Specify electronic hardware and interconnections to measure and control systems, and apply them in Cummins products.
Machine Integration and Optimization: Combine subsystems to achieve desired customer outcomes, ensuring optimization of performance, reliability, cost, and quality.
Product Function Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis: Use computational tools to predict product capabilities relative to system, subsystem, and component-level requirements.
Product Problem Solving: Solve product issues using data-based methods to protect customers and address root causes.
Product Verification and Validation Management: Develop validation plans to identify failure modes and manage product risk while evaluating test results against requirements.
System Requirements Engineering: Translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements and track these throughout the system lifecycle.
Systems Thinking: Analyze system linkages and interactions to predict behavior and propose modifications to achieve desired outcomes.

Design and Application of Open/Closed Loop Controls: Specify and configure control systems architectures, features, and algorithms for optimal interaction between hardware and software.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a relevant STEM field is required.
A post-graduate (Master’s) degree may be required for select roles.
