DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented Product Functional Test Mechanical Technician to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Cummins Inc. facility in Fridley, MN.

Installs, configures, calibrates and repairs instrumentation systems. Develops proper instrumentation setup and troubleshoots issues as they occur.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

Ensuring Precision and Reliability: By calibrating, installing, and maintaining instrumentation and data acquisition systems, you'll ensure accurate and reliable data collection, which is crucial for informed decision-making.

Enhancing Operational Efficiency: Your ability to troubleshoot, repair, and assemble test systems and specialized instrumentation will minimize downtime and enhance the efficiency of test cell operations and rigs.

Advancing Technological Capabilities: By evaluating and specifying new equipment and developing new technology, you'll contribute to the continuous improvement and modernization of the company's technological infrastructure.

Supporting Engineering Activities: Your expertise in installing, operating, and troubleshooting PCs and PC networks will support various instrumentation engineering activities, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.

Maintaining High Standards: Through the maintenance of parts and equipment inventories and the creation of electronic documentation, you'll help maintain high standards of organization and accountability.

Training and Mentoring: By working with and training apprentices and technicians, you'll help build a skilled and knowledgeable team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.

Quality and Improvement Initiatives: Your participation in the maintenance of quality procedures and improvement projects will drive the company's commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.

Effective Communication and Coordination: By interfacing with customers, suppliers, engineers, and other functions, and coordinating programs, you'll ensure effective communication and collaboration, leading to successful project outcomes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

Technical Skills

Data Acquisition: Ensure you are proficient in preparing samples, verifying equipment calibration, and performing tests according to approved procedures. This will help you produce reliable data for engineers and customers.

Data Reporting: Develop strong documentation skills to clearly organize and present testing methods, instrument settings, data, and analysis. This will enable engineers and customers to understand the results and make accurate conclusions.

Product Function Test System Design: Learn to interpret test equipment specifications and integrate appropriate equipment, instrumentation, and software. Assess the lab equipment's capability against requirements and support infrastructure.

Test Article Build: Gain expertise in assembling test articles according to test requirements, ensuring they can successfully undergo functional tests.

Test Setup and Configuration: Understand how to interpret test plans to determine optimal test space setup, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental requirements.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

• High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience in an appropriate STEM field is required.

• Regionally applicable certification or two year Associates Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field of study may be required.

• This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience:

• Requires significant relevant work experience or specialized skills obtained through education, training or on-the-job experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Possess intermediate technical experience and ability to diagnose electrical and mechanical problems in a test cell.

• Knowledge of maintenance and calibration of test equipment (especially electrical instrumentation).

• Intermediate understanding of engines, alternators, and controls.

• Use logistics equipment (powered industrial vehicles, PIV) to aid in performing work as required.

• Installing, configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting all emissions testing equipment and emissions testing-related supplies at the Fridley facility.

• Assist calibration staff with the management of all Engineering M&TE assets.

• Lead the installation and commissioning of test equipment during capital improvement projects.

• Produce and maintain excellent record keeping and documentation of processes, solutions and equipment-specific information.

• Scripting and programming for machine control, communications and data processing.

• A background in Metrology and Quality systems is a plus.
