DESCRIPTION

The Health and Safety Assistant provides administrative and operational support to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) initiatives. This role involves data collection, entry, and reporting through required HSE systems, maintaining occupational health and safety records, assisting in audit and inspection programs, coordinating training, and supporting site health, safety, and wellness initiatives. The position contributes to building an interdependent safety culture and ensuring compliance with Cummins’ standards and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain local health and safety policies, procedures, and regulatory documentation.

  • Support occupational health, safety, and environment data collection, reporting, and recordkeeping in line with corporate data protection and retention standards.

  • Enter and track health and safety data in enterprise incident management systems and report monthly metrics.

  • Support and coordinate health and safety training programs, maintaining training content and records, and assisting in trend analysis.

  • Facilitate health and safety inspections, audit programs, and wellness initiatives.

  • Immediately stop work and report hazards, injuries, illnesses, or incidents through established channels.

  • Communicate effectively to promote safety awareness across teams.

  • Participate in employee engagement activities to foster a strong safety culture.

  • Follow all applicable standard work, quality procedures, and safety practices.

  • Conduct quality checks, identify non-conforming materials, and raise issues to minimize cost and quality risks.

  • Provide reports and data as requested and assist with root cause and trend analysis.

  • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, quality, processes, and material flow.

  • Complete all required training and personal development in line with business and regulatory requirements.

  • Awareness of COMET and HEART systems.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Understanding of HSE management systems (HSENMS) and ergonomic standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Education, Licenses, Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • A two-year diploma or degree in Industrial Safety or a related field preferred.

Experience

  • Diploma with 3 to 6 years of relevant experience in health, safety, and environment (HSE).

  • Familiarity with HSE audits (as an auditee) and willingness to work in shifts as required.

  • Minimal or no prior experience may be acceptable with formal education in safety, though experience is preferred.
