DESCRIPTION

ON-SITE

The Supplier Quality Technician performs hands-on, skilled activities that ensure supplier-provided components consistently meet Cummins quality and manufacturing standards. This role supports production needs through precision inspections, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance practices, and timely communication with supplier partners. The Technician follows established safety standards and work processes while also coaching others and making continuous improvement on the shop floor.

Key Responsibilities

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

  • Actively promote a safe working environment by stopping unsafe work and reporting hazards, injuries, or incidents immediately.

  • Comply with all Cummins HSE standards, policies, and procedures.

  • Use appropriate PPE and encourage interdependent safety behaviors among peers.

  • Minimize environmental impact and complete required HSE training.

Quality

  • Perform inspection and verification of supplier components using tools, drawings, specifications, and testing equipment.

  • Ensure workmanship meets Cummins quality standards; identify and communicate issues to reduce cost and exposure.

  • Support equipment uptime analysis and provide input to preventive maintenance processes.

  • Follow standard work documentation and quality procedures; maintain traceability in quality systems.

Delivery & Operational Excellence

  • Perform and document preventive, corrective, predictive, and emergency maintenance tasks.

  • Maintain orderly and safe work areas, including housekeeping and equipment care.

  • Work collaboratively to remove manufacturing constraints, solve problems, and improve processes.

  • Participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives (e.g., TPM) to enhance safety, quality, delivery, and cost.

  • Coach and support other team members by sharing knowledge and best practices.

Education, Licenses & Certifications

  • High school diploma, secondary education completion, or equivalent experience required.

  • Additional certifications in mechanical or electrical trades preferred.

  • May require compliance licensing for export control or sanctions regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Skills & Experience

  • Significant relevant hands-on technical or manufacturing experience, acquired through formal training or on-the-job development.

  • Proficiency with measurement tools, industrial equipment, and interpreting engineering drawings/specifications.

  • Experience working with quality processes, inspections, and problem resolution preferred.

  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance systems and shop floor data documentation.

Additional Qualifications for Internal Candidates

In addition to the above, internal candidates will:

  • Monitor and improve supplier quality performance.

  • Serve as communication link between suppliers and the COE plant on both quantity and quality issues.

  • Conduct PPAP validation at supplier locations.

  • Perform periodic manufacturing process audits and drive corrective actions with suppliers.
