Product Systems Design Engineer

DESCRIPTION
This entry-level/early-career, product-focused position applies engineering principles and design practices to develop optimized design concepts and mechanical design specifications. The role considers application, cost, weight, performance, reliability, durability, manufacturing, assembly, and serviceability requirements. It effectively communicates design capability, evaluates alternative concepts, and collaborates across cross-functional teams to develop and refine requirements, including those necessary to resolve product issues.
Key Responsibilities Design & Engineering Execution
Creates 3D models and 2D drawings using Creo for forging, casting, and sheet metal components.
Develops concept models and conducts feasibility studies (DMU) .
Performs basic design calculations to support engineering decisions.
Investigates VPI/field issues, identifies causal mechanisms, recommends corrective actions, and documents results with guidance from senior engineers.
Product Development & Change Management
Supports design decision-making activities including concept selection, optimization, and defining design specifications.
Prepares and releases Engineering Change Requests (ECR/ECN) in Windchill PLM .
Participates in processes such as Critical Design Decisions, Design Reviews, System Design Checklists, DFMEA/iDFMEA, DVA, GD&T application, and simulation inputs (e.g., ANSYS Workbench).
Communicates component/subsystem design intent through complete Design Review packages for PPT, VPI, and VPCR programs.
Cross-functional Collaboration
Coordinates with internal cross-functional teams (CFT), customers, and technical experts to gather requirements, resolve product issues, and ensure alignment on design deliverables.
Contributes effectively to team goals and influences within the work group.
Execution & Continuous Improvement
Independently executes established work processes while continuing to build product and engineering knowledge.
Supports improvements in systems, tools, and design processes.
May coordinate work with technicians, interns, or temporary employees as needed.
Owns problem resolution for moderately complex components and subsystems, with increasing responsibility as experience grows.

Education, Licenses, Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate STEM field or equivalent experience required.
This position may require licensing to comply with export control or sanctions regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge & Skills (Skills and Competencies)
Proficiency in Creo (Solid, Surface, Sheet Metal) for 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities .
Basic proficiency/exposure to GD&T , tolerance stack-up analysis, and DFMEA/iDFMEA .
Ability to work collaboratively across teams and communicate technical information effectively.
Strong attention to detail with a focus on design quality and customer needs.
Knowledge of product configuration, change management, and lifecycle processes (preferred).
Experience
2-5 years relevant experience
Preferred experience through internships, co-ops, engineering projects, or early career roles in a relevant technical area.
Working knowledge of MS Office and Creo is preferred.
