DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented Health, Safety and Environmental Technician to join our team specializing in Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) support for our Distribution Business in Ankeny, IA.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
Provide technical support on health, safety, and environmental matters to production and site personnel under the guidance of the site HSE leader.
Support the analysis, review, implementation, and sustainability of Health, Safety, and Environmental Management Systems.
Identify gaps within corporate HSE initiatives and local HSE policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, and support corrective actions.
Assist with hazard identification, incident investigation, root cause analysis, and risk assessment processes, including closure of corrective and preventive actions.
Act as an HSE resource for the site, providing guidance on internal reporting processes and creating HSE awareness through effective communication.
Participate in and support HSE inspections, audits, emergency response processes, and environmental management activities.
Gather and analyze HSE-related data to identify trends and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Maintain accurate documentation, confidentiality, and recordkeeping in line with corporate data protection and retention requirements.
Support employee engagement, wellness initiatives, and the development of an interdependent safety culture.
Follow all applicable quality procedures, perform quality checks, identify non-conforming material, and raise issues to minimize cost and quality exposure.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
Strong knowledge of HSE fundamentals, including hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident investigation with root cause analysis.
Ability to interpret and apply HSE management systems and international standards within a manufacturing or operational environment.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and external stakeholders.
Action-oriented, resilient, and proactive with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Strong collaboration, customer focus, and commitment to continuous improvement and safety excellence.
Experience with HSE software and Microsoft applications; professional certifications (GSP, ASP, CSP) preferred or in progress.
Education/Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Two-year university degree in Industrial Safety, Environmental Management, Sustainability, or a related field preferred.
Requires significant relevant work experience or specialized skills obtained through education, training, or on-the-job experience in health, safety, and environment.
