DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented Engine Field Service Technician - Level III to join our team specializing in Service for our Service Operations Department in South Africa.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
Restore uptime quickly and safely: Diagnose and complete complex engine repairs, overhauls, and rebuilds with minimal supervision—reducing downtime and keeping customer operations running.
Elevate first-time fix rates: Apply specialized tooling and documented procedures to deliver accurate fault identification and quality repairs, limiting repeat visits and warranty exposure.
Strengthen customer relationships: Provide prompt, professional on-site support and proactive communication that builds trust, improves satisfaction, and enhances retention.
Prevent failures before they happen: Execute preventative maintenance to standard, extending asset life, improving reliability, and lowering total cost of ownership for customers.
Accelerate team capability: Coach and provide work direction to less experienced technicians/apprentices, lifting overall team skill, speed, and safety performance.
Protect compliance and quality: Complete all required documentation (service reports, timesheets, warranty claims, quality records) accurately and on time, ensuring audit readiness and data integrity.
Grow revenue responsibly: Identify additional service and parts opportunities during site visits, connecting customer needs with solutions that add value and drive profitable growth.
Champion HSE excellence: Maintain a clean, well-operated service vehicle and tools; rigorously follow Health, Safety & Environmental policies; and promptly report incidents to uphold a zero-harm culture.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
Advanced diagnostic capability: Confidently translate customer complaints into a structured troubleshooting plan, use mechanical/electronic tools and diagnostic software to isolate faults, validate repairs, and accurately document all findings.
Proficiency with electronic service tools: Know which hardware and software tools apply to each service event, interpret electronic data correctly, and use these insights to determine the right repair path quickly and accurately.
Deep understanding of engine system interactions: Skillfully analyze how electrical, mechanical, and aftertreatment systems interact, apply service publications and precise measurements, and use this knowledge to diagnose and repair issues efficiently.
High‑quality repair, maintenance, and documentation habits: Perform repairs to standard; manage disassembly/assembly cleanly; follow reuse and progressive damage guidelines; escalate complex issues appropriately; and record all service details thoroughly for accurate history and payment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/ Experience:
Apprentice Trained Engine Technician (Preferred)
Vocational diploma from relevant technical institution - Qualified Diesel Mechanic/ Millwright, Minimum N2 certificate.
Locally valid driving permit
Significant field service work experience
Expert level knowledge of and/or experience with engine products
Customer service experience
Experience providing technical advice and coaching to more junior technicians (preferred)
Ability to interpret engineering drawings
Ability to write clear, formal, and professional reports
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to assist with PrevenTech installation activities.
Ability to support and troubleshoot site‑specific failures.
