DESCRIPTION
Actively promotes health, safety and environmental awareness and applies technical knowledge in the design, implementation and management of health, safety and environmental engineering controls within the site(s). Provides support cross-functionally to ensure compliance with Cummins internal requirements, applicable health, safety and environmental regulations and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Actively demonstrates safety awareness and promotes a positive health, safety and environmental culture. Ensures employees are consulted and given the opportunity to contribute to the development and implementation of programs, policies and procedures. Works cross-functionally, providing technical expertise, to improve hazard prevention and rick control measures, non-conformities, corrective and preventive actions, driving continual improvement within the site(s). Contributes to daily health, safety and environmental operations within the site(s) providing support to solve technical issues. Leads hazard identification, environmental aspect identification and risk assessment programs to identify risk improvement opportunities and gaps in health, safety and environmental compliance obligations. Meets targets and objectives for the design, implementation and maintenance of complex hazard prevention and control systems to reduce or eliminate potential risk. Develops and leads training, skills development and internal communications related to hazard prevention and control for employees within the site(s). Develops and maintains technical content ensuring it is up to date, controlled and available while adhering to data privacy regulations. Evaluates site health, safety and environmental data, legal compliance findings, and internal and external audit results to develop improvement plan using a risk-based, data driven approach. Contributes to site(s) Health, Safety, Environmental Management Systems review annually in conformance with Cummins internal requirements. Participates in site audit preparation and formal audit processes. Coaches cross-functional teams based on stakeholder feedback, and observations. Actively seeks opportunities for self-development through professional health, safety and environmental organizations, as a champion of emerging trends.

Measurement and Evaluation of Health, Safety and Environment Performance - Collects and analyzes data by creating key performance indicators to evaluate performance trends, deliver improvement goals and objectives, inform strategy and protect employees and the environment.
Risk Assessment - Evaluates hazards within the work environment by applying hazard identification and risk assessment techniques to analyze and prioritize risk, enabling a selection of control measures that reduce risk as low as reasonably practicable.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:
College, university, or equivalent degree in health, safety, environment, engineering or related field required. Professional certification in HSE-related field preferred.
Experience:
Minimal to intermediate level of experience required
QUALIFICATIONS
The Manufacturing Development Program (MDP) Associate role is an entry-level two year role in which the employee will rotate to four different rotations, each lasting six months. The purpose of the program is for the associate to develop a broad set of skills and experiences across the manufacturing space. After completion of the program, the graduate associate is expected to find a post-program position within Cummins.
Our rotations include the below focus areas:
Rotation 1: Global Manufacturing Engineering
Rotation 2: Manufacturing Operations
Rotation 3: Operations Support / Six Sigma
Rotation 4: Focus/ Elective
The first rotation must be based out of Columbus, Indiana at Cummins Engine Plant. No more than two rotations may be done at any one site.
Potential Locations across the US include: Southern Indiana (Columbus & Seymour), Rocky Mount, NC, Charleston, SC, Jamestown, NY, Fridley, MN, Denver, CO, along with others.
Desired Candidates Degrees:
MFG-Mechanical, Industrial, Systems, and Manufacturing Engineering or Engineering Technology or related degrees
SCM-SC Management, Engineering Management, or Industrial Engineering or related degrees
Will except related work experience
Desired Candidate Qualities: Strong communication skills, highly adaptable, demonstrates initiative, experiences and education in manufacturing or supply chain functions.
Must be ready for full time work in August 2026.
