DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented Field Service Power Generation Technician / Mechanic to join our Distribution Business in Hodgkins, IL.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
Completing repair activities on generators or components
Engaging with customers in a courteous and professional manner
Perform maintenance/repairs utilizing diagnostic tools
Maintain detailed records of service
Adhere to Cummins Health, Safety & Environmental policies
Ongoing development/certifications on new and existing Cummins products
Maintain own tools
RESPONSIBILITIES
In order to be successful in this role you will need the following:
Broad mechanical and electrical repair and maintenance abilities.
High Voltage / Low Voltage experience.
Advanced experience with electrical repair and maintenance
Proficient Diesel Engine experience.
Advanced troubleshooting and repairs of generators, transfer switches, and auxiliary components.
Setup, troubleshoot and repair basic paralleling generator systems.
Understanding switchgear schematics.
Ability to train Entry/Intermediate Technicians/Mechanics.

Required Skills / Education / Experience
Strong technical proficiency in power generation systems (diesel/natural gas engines, electrical systems, control panels).
3–5 years of field service experience in power generation or related heavy equipment.
Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical manuals; strong diagnostic/problem-solving skills.
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively.
Preferred Skills / Education / Experience
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) – optional but beneficial.
OEM certifications (e.g., Cummins, Caterpillar) or advanced training in power generation systems.

Core Responsibilities
Perform advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics on power generation equipment (engines, alternators, control systems, transfer switches).
Lead on-site repairs and maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety and manufacturer standards.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians
A current valid license is required for this role
Must be 18 years old with 2 years driving experience
This role requires a 5 year motor vehicle report, free from major violations
A CDL may be required to obtain upon hire
Federal law requires a CDL holder to be 21 years of age or older
