Position Summary

Work you’ll do

The Manager will play a key role in proactively engaging the Venture Capital (VC) community on behalf of Deloitte with the goal of identifying innovative technologies and capturing market insights which support the Firm’s most strategic growth areas. Sustained engagement with the Venture Capital community creates an excellent source of innovation, insights and potential offerings for Deloitte and its clients. Successful mutually beneficial VC engagements require a data-driven approach and strong bi-directional communications, both internal to Deloitte as well as to the VC firms and applicable portfolio companies. The manager will have relationship management responsibility for a portfolio of Venture Capital firms and will be aligned to one or more Deloitte technology domains. This role focuses on leveraging a programmatic approach to collaborating with external and internal constituents to generate value for the Firm by engaging the Venture Capital community and its portfolio companies.

Specific areas of responsibility include:

  • Day-to-day management and engagement ownership with select Venture Capital firms, and in some cases, identifying and recruiting VC firms to join the community.
  • Orchestration and execution of executive briefings between VC firms and Deloitte leadership.
  • Engagement with key internal Deloitte strategy, ecosystem and offering development teams.
  • Internal reporting and communications on key trends, investments and activities across the Venture community.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Strong career interest in Venture Capital and enterprise growth strategies
  • Strong oral and written communications skills with comfort and expertise in developing narratives focused on articulating a strategy
  • Comfort in interfacing with senior leaders and driving executive-level engagement

The Team

The position is part of the Deloitte Ventures team within the US Corporate Development function. Deloitte Ventures is the central point of interface between Deloitte and a network of strategic VC firms. The team proactively engages the VC community to identify innovative technologies and collect insights to guide Deloitte’s largest and most strategic investments. Areas of focus align with the Firm’s core businesses across Consulting, Tax and Audit, and include organic and inorganic investments in technology and services businesses.

Examples Deloitte Ventures activities:

  • Providing input to Firm strategy via outside-in perspective and expertise on market direction and emerging technologies.
  • Identification of emerging technology providers whose offerings complement and create business opportunities for Deloitte’s existing and emerging businesses.
  • Supporting industry/vertical teams in the identification of new business opportunities within the Venture ecosystem.
  • Gathering and communicating perspectives on Venture Capital investment trends.
  • Identification of M&A opportunities amongst early-stage technology markets.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in corporate development, partner/alliances or product management in the enterprise technology industry.
  • Solid understanding of Venture Capital economics and business models.
  • Deep business-level understanding of one or more software markets
  • Expertise in storyboarding and creating decks for executive audiences
  • Ability to travel 0 - 25%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve.
  • Limited immigration sponsorship may be available

Preferred:

  • MBA
  • Experience working in the Venture Capital industry

For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, New Jersey, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York state, Washington State, and Washington, DC, Deloitte is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This compensation range is specific to {insert location} and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $139,400 - $232,300.

You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
