Purpose of the role
The Scrum Master operates at Squad level, and is a change agent with a passion for working with people and teams to help them deliver their best work. They are responsible for facilitating the continuous improvements of the teams processes.
They will do this by helping the team understand Agile theory, practices and values and translating this into practice by running the standard Agile ceremonies.
The SM is a servant-leader for the Squad; and facilitates them to become self-organised and focused on delivering the outcome for the client. Working with the PO, they support prioritisation of the backlog, must be able to demonstrate their approach to facilitation, mentoring, training and servant-leadership to a team / Squad level, while helping maximise the value created by the Squad.
Responsibilities
Ensure that Tribe and Squad goals are understood by everyone in the Squad
Foster and model a collaborative environment, advocate self-organization
Collaborate with the Product Owner and Squad to ensure a healthy prioritised product backlog is maintained by the PO
Act as facilitator of team ceremonies through a clear understanding of the aim of each event, taking corrective measures as required
Help the Squad to continuously improve the effectiveness of their incremental delivery of value to clients & stakeholders
Coach and facilitate the team in self-organisation and cross-functionality - delivering it in line with agreed outcomes
Identify inefficiencies in Squad operation and remove impediments to the Squad's progress
For dependencies - Liaise with other squads and Tribe members and get them resolved
Accountable for continuous improvement & improved Velocity as Sprints progress
Competencies & Experience
Highly motivated self-starter, comfortable offering guidance and leadership, both individually and at team/Squad levels
A great teamplayer, who is comfortable helping point out impediments
Brings passion to their work to inspire and motivate team members
Provide an active role in mitigating impediments impacting successful team completion of Release/Sprint Goals
Passionate about Agile principles and excited to embed them in org.
Love coaching and supporting people to embrace new way of working
Confident delivering formal and informal training as well as coaching ability and conflict facilitation skills
Calm, confident and open-minded and continuous improvement mindset
The ability to self-learn and respond positively to feedback & coaching
Scrum Master certified and experienced with demonstrable skills and proven capability of Agile application and scrum techniques
Ability to brainstorm with team to address challenges and roadblocks
Proven experience influencing behaviour cross-team and cross-discipline without having formal organisational hierarchy
Experience in Agile methodologies
Attitude which puts the needs of the entire team before that of the individual and helping others perform to the best of their abilities (Servant Leadership)
