Team / division overview

The Chief Risk Office within DWS is an independent function responsible for protecting the business as well as being a trusted adviser and partner for supporting sustainable business growth. As part of the Chief Risk Office, the Investment Risk team is in charge of independent risk oversight of investment risk of DWS fiduciary portfolios. In this role, it designs and executes the risk programs to identify, measure, control and manage market, liquidity, sustainability, and counterparty risk of fiduciary portfolios. This includes the regular monitoring, analysis, and reporting of risk to portfolio management and DWS management board.

Role Details

The Investment Risk – Senior Risk Manager focuses on the assessment, control, and governance of investment risks taken within commingled investment vehicles (funds and ETFs) and separately managed accounts. The role focuses on market, counterparty credit, and liquidity risk while also taken into account other risks the product or its investors may be exposed to. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct risk analysis on a set of portfolios for varying mandates types (active, passive, liquid alternative) with broad underlying exposure (fixed income, equity, commodity, derivatives)

  • Production and analysis of Value-at-Risk, Tracking Error, Liquidity Ratios, Transaction Cost, and other strategy specific risk metrics

  • Prepare funds’ risk program fund board materials

  • Document risk process and risk assessments

  • Due diligence of external sub-advisors to qualitatively assess risk management processes

  • Representation of Investment Risk in regional and global governance forums

  • Prepare and present Investment Risk materials on risk oversight committee(s)

  • Representation of the Risk Management function to clients, regulators, and other external stakeholders

  • Lead special projects related to the risk framework or other identified risk issues

  • Enhance risk toolset, risk framework, and processes for US portfolios

  • Participation in industry forums to maintain knowledge of industry risk management best practices

  • Keep abreast of changes in relevant local laws and regulations and understand their implications

  • Guide junior team members

We are looking for

  • Master degree (or equivalent) in Finance or quantitative field

  • At least 5 years experience in the financial services industry, with experience in market, counterparty credit, liquidity, risk functions preferably within a buy-side firm

  • Proven experience with analytical models for financial instruments

  • Proven experience in process design & implementation

  • Previous experience with BlackRock Solutions Aladdin preferred

  • Chartered Financial Analyst and Financial Risk Manager designations are a plus

  • Strong interpersonal skills; role requires constant interaction with individuals within the global risk organization, across the business (portfolio managers, relationship managers, business management) and externally (clients, regulators)

  • Ability to communicate issues to senior management proactively and effectively; ability to translate complex risk management concepts and analysis into succinct points driving actions

  • Strong knowledge of risk management concepts across a diverse set of instrument types, business mandates, and risk disciplines (market, liquidity, counterparty)

  • Knowledge of Asset Management (and its value chain) and regulatory frameworks within and outside the Americas

  • Attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities

  • Proactive mind-set to implement process improvements and new solutions

  • Ability to work independently and in a team

  • Strong working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SQL

  • Interest in working in an international environment with excellent command of English language (written and spoken)

The salary range for this position in New York City is $138,000 to $230,000. Actual salaries may be based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, a candidate’s skill set, experience, education and other qualifications. Posted salary ranges do not include incentive compensation or any other type of renumeration
