Details of the Division and Team:

Deutsche Bank Research is responsible for economic and financial analysis within Deutsche Bank Group and covers Fixed Income & Currency markets, asset allocation and all major industry sectors. We analyse relevant trends in financial markets, the economy and society, highlight risks and opportunities and act as consultant for the bank, its clients and stakeholders.

You will sit with the bank’s highly-ranked Foreign Exchange (FX) Research team. You will be supporting with insights to hedge funds, asset managers and corporates on foreign exchange and broader macro trends that affect the business world. This involves micro as well as macro analysis, on-going authoring and production of written research to promote investment/macro/hedging views and marketing of those views to internal and external clients

Your key responsibilities:

  • Responsible for forecasting the direction for major currencies, including short-term trade ideas, the medium-term outlook and key market drivers such as global capital flows, monetary policy and geopolitical drivers. You will be expected to particularly focus on the Australian and New Zealand dollars with additional scope to generate trade ideas and thematic pieces across global FX.
  • Monitoring and real-time analysis of global data and newsflow throughout the trading day, to support clients’ decision-making.
  • Discuss topics of particular relevance to clients with exchange rate risk, for example currency hedging, currency overlay and broader macro themes
  • Responsible for providing broader insights into financial markets, the macroeconomic environment and thematic trends that affect the business world
  • Author research reports and attend client meetings and presentations to discuss all of the above and extensive travel
  • Support key internal stakeholders, including senior management, in the Investment Bank on key currency and macro themes

Your skills and experience:

  • An established macro analysis background and relevant knowledge and/or experience of financial markets, preferably in Foreign Exchange.

  • Expert knowledge of the Australian/New Zealand market and more broadly Asia Pacific markets desirable.

  • Significant work experience in an investment bank; central bank; international financial institution; think-tank or economic consultancy.

  • Strong written ability –concise, impactful writing. Excellent presentation skills

  • A passion for markets, entrepreneurialism, self-starter.

  • Ability to research a topic in which you have little experience or knowledge

  • A track record of producing analysis that provides insights into financial markets and/or makes investment/hedging recommendations for corporates or asset managers

  • Ability to interact and engage with regional/global teams
