Division overview

The DWS Control Office (DCO) is the central business function mandated to design an effective framework of business processes and controls in collaboration with the DWS business units and enabling functions. The activities of the DCO spans across the entire DWS value chain, including all product groups, business processes and regions.

Role Details:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Control Officer to join our Control Office within the Coverage and Compliance team, responsible amongst others for designing and implementing appropriate oversight of the DWS Sanctions Compliance Program. The successful candidate will support and drive various tasks and projects within the team, including defining sanctions MI/metrics for reporting, managing governance, and conducting risk assessments.

As a Senior Control Officer your tasks will include:

  • DWS Sanctions Compliance Program Oversight:
  • Design and implement appropriate oversight of the DWS Sanctions Compliance Program.
  • Define Sanctions MI/Metrics for reporting to understand the sanctions risk exposure and the effectiveness of controls.
  • Define metrics, owners, frequency, and reporting requirements.
  • Governance and Training:
  • Manage and maintain governance for the DWS Sanctions Compliance Program, KODs, and training documents.
  • Ensure all DWS business lines, AFC/Compliance, and other stakeholders are aligned with the program's objectives.
  • Financial Crime Risk Assessment:
  • Conduct Financial Crime Risk Assessments in collaboration with assessment units, risk type controllers, and BCOs.
  • Identify and assess potential risks, and develop mitigation strategies to manage those risks.
  • Risk & Control Assessment:
  • Conduct Risk & Control Assessments for AFC-related risk types, in collaboration with risk managing units, risk type controllers, and BCOs.
  • Identify and assess potential risks, and develop mitigation strategies to manage those risks.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of controls and recommend improvements to increase control effectiveness.

The candidate will support the Senior Team Lead in ad-hoc requests and provide back-up where needed. Additionally, he will build and manage stakeholder relationships to ensure optimal information flow and cooperation to identify and address existing and emerging risks. By doing so, he will help ensure that operational risk events are properly managed and mitigated, and that the organization is able to effectively address any risks that may arise.

Requirements and Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Finance, Law, Compliance, Risk Management).
  • Experience in asset management, banking or financial industry.
  • At least 5 years of experience in AFC, Compliance, Operational Risk Management, or a related field. In-depth knowledge of sanctions regulations and anti-financial crime (AFC) principles is considered a plus
  • Knowledge of DB Group's policies, procedures, and systems is considered a plus
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and assess risks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel) and other relevant software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and German.
