Area/ Team

As part of one of the internationally staffed, agile teams of the Private Bank One Data Platform, you will be part of the "TDI PB Enterprise & Data" department. The focus is on developing and delivering different solutions in data warehousing, reporting and analytics for the Private Bank to ensure that necessary data is provided for operational and analytical purposes.

The PB One Data Platform is the new, strategic data platform of the Private Bank and uses the Google Cloud Platform as a basis. With Google as a close partner, we are following Deutsche Bank's cloud strategy with the aim of transferring a significant proportion of today's on-prem applications to the Google cloud platform or building new ones there.

Position overview

Are you passionate about building scalable, high-performance data pipeline while leading a dynamic team? We are looking for a Lead Data Engineer to design, develop and optimize robust ETL processes in our cloud-based data ecosystem. In this role, you’ll combine hands-on coding with leadership, mentoring junior developers and driving best practices in an agile environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Design and Development: Guide your team in creating scalable batch and real-time ETL pipelines to load data into our cloud-based data platform and provide it to multiple Data consumers.
  • Provide Technical Guidance: Mentor junior and mid-level developers to help them grow their skills and ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Quality & Agile Collaboration: Conduct comprehensive reviews of code and design documents to guarantee robust, scalable solutions, while actively engaging in CI/CD process and collaboration with agile teams.
  • Develop and Optimize Data Pipelines: Design, implement, and maintain scalable ETL pipelines that integrate structured and unstructured data into our Google Cloud Platform (GCP) ecosystem. Developer efficient data modeling and processing techniques that streamline out data structures, boosting performance for fast analytics and more actionable insights.
  • Code Contribution and Oversight: Writing high-quality Python matters, your primary focus is ensuring team best practices though regular code reviews, mentoring and collaboration. You’ll support the team by solving technical challenges and removing obstacles to ensure smooth progress. Hands-on coding is encouraged as needed, but your main role is to elevate team’s technical excellence.
  • Cloud-Native Data Solutions: Leverage Google Cloud services (BigQuery, DataFlow, Pub/Sub, Cloud Functions etc.) to build and enhance scalable data solutions.

Skills

  • Proven Data Engineering Experience: 7+ years of experience designing and building scalable data pipelines, with a strong focus on writing robust, maintainable Python code (Java is considered a plus).
  • Strong Cloud Expertise: Hands-on experience with one or more cloud platforms (Google Cloud, AWS, or Azure) and a solid understanding of their data services. Prior experience with Google Cloud Platform, including services like BigQuery, Dataflow (Apache Beam), CloudRun, CloudFunctions, PubSub, GCS, Cloud Composer (Airflow) is highly appreciated.
  • Data Transformation & Warehousing: Proficiency with data modeling and ETL processes; direct experience with data warehousing is advantageous but not essential.
  • Software Engineering Best Practices: Experience in versioning control (e.g. Git / Bitbucket), CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, TeamCity, Jenkins), and unit testing frameworks (Pytest, Unittest or Junit).
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Demonstrated ability to lead teams, guide technical decisions, and review work to ensure high-quality, scalable solutions.
  • Bonus Skills: Familiar with Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g. Terraform, Ansible, Chef), and hands-on experience with shell scripting.
