Job Description:

Shared Applications and Services organization came to life in 2023 as a direct result of the initiative of organizing shared assets in the bank, like Workflow Platforms, Document Systems, Process Automations etc. Workflow Tribe is a core domain within Deutsche Bank’s Shared Applications and Services (SAS), responsible for delivering scalable, secure, and consumable workflow solutions across the bank. It fosters a culture of innovation, agility, and ownership and it’s recognized as a strategic pillar within SAS, contributing to bank-wide initiatives. It operates under an agile model structured around Squads and Centers of Expertise (CoEs), enabling cross-functional collaboration and continuous delivery.

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Software Engineering Chapter Lead to guide, mentor, and develop a talented team of software engineers. This is a senior role that blends deep technical expertise with exceptional people management skills. You will be responsible for fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement while overseeing the development and lifecycle of our core software applications.

As a Chapter Lead, you will be a proactive, people-oriented leader who is not afraid to dive into technical challenges. You will report to the Tribe Engineering Lead and work within a dynamic multi-squad tribe. Your ability to communicate effectively in English will be crucial as you interact with various stakeholders across the organization, from your team members to senior management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and inspire a chapter of software engineers, fostering their professional growth and career development.
  • Conduct regular one-on-ones, performance reviews, and goal-setting sessions.
  • Cultivate a positive, inclusive, and performance-oriented spirit, fostering a team culture that values collaboration and innovation.
  • Encourage and facilitate technical studies, knowledge sharing sessions, and continuous learning within the chapter.
  • Act as a servant leader, removing impediments and empowering your team to deliver high-quality software.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on the architecture, design, and implementation of software applications built with Java, Elasticsearch, Kubernetes, and cloud technologies.
  • Champion software engineering best practices, including code quality, automated testing, CI/CD, and application lifecycle management.
  • Stay current with industry trends and drive the adoption of new technologies and methodologies to solve complex problems.
  • Ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of our software systems.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Agile Coaches, Architects and other Chapter Leads to ensure alignment on product vision and technical roadmaps.
  • Effectively communicate technical concepts, project status, and risks to both technical and non-technical stakeholders at various levels.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for your chapter's technical domain.

Skills

  • Proven experience in a senior software engineering role with a track record of technical leadership.
  • Demonstrable experience in people management, including coaching, mentoring, and performance management of software engineers.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with our core technology stack:
  • Java and its ecosystem (e.g., Spring Boot, Hibernate).
  • Python for scripting or application development.
  • Elasticsearch for search and analytics.
  • Kafka for building event-driven architectures.
  • Containerization and orchestration technologies (Kubernetes, Docker).
  • Major Cloud Computing platforms
  • Strong understanding of what workflow automation means, with hands-on experience using a BPMN engine like Camunda.
  • Solid understanding of microservices architecture, distributed systems, and modern software development principles.
  • Business fluency in English is mandatory.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • A proactive, well-spoken, and solution-oriented individual with a passion for both technology and people.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or Ansible - nice to have
  • Relevant certifications in Kubernetes (CKA/CKAD) or Cloud Platforms - nice to have
