Overview
Credit Risk Management is a centralized risk-type function within the Chief Risk Office. Our CRM - Hedge Funds and Private Equity team provides critical risk oversight and expertise across various business units within the Corporate & Investment Bank, with a primary focus on the Fixed Income & Currencies businesses. As the Americas Head of Credit Risk Management - Hedge Funds and Private Equity, you will be a pivotal leader, responsible for overseeing and actively managing the credit risk profile of Deutsche Bank’s regional hedge fund and private equity client portfolio. This encompasses a diverse range of investment strategies, traded products, and structured lending solutions. Based in New York, you will report directly to the Global Head of CRM Funds in London, This role demands a seasoned professional capable of leading a team of experienced credit officers, acting as the key regional decision-maker, and serving as the primary escalation point for all credit-related matters within your remit.

What You’ll Do
Strategic Leadership & Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of nine (9) credit officers across New York and Jacksonville. Provide strong guidance, expertise, and thought leadership, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
Portfolio Oversight & Risk Management: Be ultimately accountable for managing the credit risk of the regional hedge fund and private equity portfolio. This includes approving complex and/or large transactions, particularly structured financing with private capital funds, and actively managing high-profile or higher-risk relationships
Decision-Making & Escalation: Serve as the key regional decision-maker and primary escalation point for all credit-related issues within the Americas portfolio. This includes matters requiring urgent attention, such as missed margin calls or information indicating client financial distress, necessitating rapid assessment and decisive action
Senior Stakeholder Engagement: Comfortably brief and engage with senior management and regulators on portfolio developments, emerging risk issues, and strategic risk appetite discussions. Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal stakeholders across various functions
Due Diligence & Documentation: Participate in and lead credit due diligence meetings with clients to gain a comprehensive understanding of their investment processes, strategies, risk management frameworks, and traded products. Lead complex legal negotiations and approve non-standard documentation terms based on a thorough overall risk assessment
Proactive Portfolio Management: Implement proactive monitoring and management strategies for large, concentrated, or illiquid exposures utilizing Deutsche Bank’s credit risk management and product monitoring systems. Ensure active portfolio management and maintain high data quality for all existing counterparties
How You’ll Lead
Market & Regulatory Intelligence: Participate in regular meetings with CRM senior management and 1st Line of Defense to discuss market dynamics, top exposures, and stress names. Stay abreast of market developments, regulatory issues, and potential weaknesses or stress within the hedge fund and private equity sectors
Senior Stakeholder Engagement: Comfortably brief and engage with senior management and regulators on portfolio developments, emerging risk issues, and strategic risk appetite discussions. Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal stakeholders across various functions
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Liaise effectively with internal divisions such as Legal, Front Office Risk, Collateral Management, Compliance, and Exposure Management to assess and approve new or complex product offerings and transactions
Skills You’ll Need
Extensive Leadership Experience: Minimum of extensive years of progressive experience in a leadership role, specifically managing hedge fund and/or private equity fund credit risk
Deep Sector Expertise: Profound knowledge of credit risk management principles coupled with a solid understanding of hedge funds and private equity funds, including expertise in a broad range of investment strategies and their associated risks
Master Trading Documentation Fluency: Strong understanding of master trading documentation (e.g., ISDA, GMRA, MSLA) and proven ability to guide and support the team during complex negotiations
Crisis Management & Distressed Situations: Demonstrated experience in managing funds in distress and leading effectively during crisis situations is highly advantageous. Prior experience in managing private equity funds credit risk is strongly preferred
Comprehensive Product Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of all major derivative instruments and their respective master agreements, with a full understanding of their risk characteristics

Expectations
It is the Bank’s expectation that employees hired into this role will work in the New York office in accordance with the Bank’s hybrid working model.

The salary range for this position in New York City is $170,000 to $280,500. Actual salaries may be based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, a candidate’s skill set, experience, education, work location and other qualifications. Posted salary ranges do not include incentive compensation or any other type of remuneration.
