About the Team
The Chief Sustainability Office belongs to the CEO area and is responsible for creating guidelines and processes for environmental and social sustainability issues, ensuring the transparency of our sustainability management and shaping an ongoing exchange with various stakeholders. The main tasks of the department include:
Management and interface for sustainability management in the Group
Development of standards and guidelines for the management of environmental and social issues in the bank business units
Management of requests from rating agencies and other external sustainability initiatives
Stakeholder Engagement Management
As an Environmental and Social Due Diligence Specialist you will be part of the Sustainable Finance & Governance Team within Deutsche Bank’s Chief Sustainability Office. You will be based in Frankfurt am Main.
The Environmental and Social Due Diligence Specialist will be required to apply and develop the group-wide frameworks for dealing with environmental and social risks in the bank’s core business.
Your responsibilities
Your focus will be on the environmental and social due diligence of (new) clients and transactions, including project finance
For this, you will be responsible for the development of respective guidelines and processes, and you will manage complex projects for their implementation
You prepare presentations for environmental and social issues to the relevant bank committees
You are responsible for raising awareness of environmental and social issues and the associated risks and train employees accordingly globally and in your region
You engage in dialogue with stakeholders on environmental and social issues, with clients and NGOs in Germany and globally
You represent the bank in relevant external initiatives and committees in your region
Your skills and experience
At least 5 years of experience in a financial institution, investment bank, consultancy, or professional services, focusing on sustainability, environmental and social topics, and/or risk and control processes.
Minimum of 3 years’ proven experience in valuation or transaction analysis related to environmental and social risks, aligned with international standards such as the Equator Principles or IFC Performance Standards.
Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects, including the development and implementation of ES policies, sector guidelines, or tailored trainings; expertise in biodiversity or human rights is a plus.
Strong knowledge of current ESG regulations and relevant guidelines.
University degree (Bachelor or higher) in business administration, political science, natural sciences, or a comparable field.
Highly self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities; comfortable working in an international, dynamic environment; fluent in English, with German skills desirable.
