Division Overview:

- The Chief Risk Office function has Group-wide responsibility for the management and control of all credit, market, operational, reputational, enterprise and liquidity risks and has the responsibility of continual development of methods for risk measurement, frameworks and creating a bank wide strong risk culture.
- Operational Risk Management ('ORM') is a department within the Risk Division. As a Second Line of Defence function, ORM is responsible for oversight across all aspects of operational risk, including risk identification and assessment, control framework, risk appetite and scenario analysis.
- The role sits in the ORM Environmental, Social & Governance ('ESG') Risk Management team. The team is responsible for the integration and ongoing risk management of ESG within the ORM frameworks, including the associated policies, policy adherence, risk appetite, metrics, reporting and minimum control standards.
Role Description
- This is an exciting opportunity for a high-calibre individual to perform a proactive risk management role to support setting the bank's operational risk management approach to ESG. The candidate will focus on identifying, assessing and monitoring events, controls and risks common to multiple operational cross-risk types.
- The topic requires close collaboration across both Business Divisions and Control Functions given the broad scope of the topic and would suit an individual who can think strategically across risk matters, relate them to risk management and then work across the organisation to help support the bank's risk management capabilities.
- The candidate will be exposed to senior stakeholders across all regions and businesses in the Bank. They will be responsible for owning several key tasks and delivering projects that are presented to senior management and oversight committees, working closely with a varied and global DB network. This role would be an excellent opportunity for any experienced Risk Manager who has a good awareness of ESG and ORM Framework and is keen to develop an in-depth understanding of how to apply these to risk management in a global financial institution.

Your key responsibilities
- Playing a critical role in developing the bank's operational risk control environment for ESG and broadly cross-risk type considerations. This can include:
- supporting the embedding of ESG & cross-risk types within the bank's operational risk type frameworks
- challenging the bank's cross-risk type operational risk control and governance landscape whilst providing constructive proposed solutions
- Operating to identify, assess, and manage events, risks, and controls common to multiple cross-risk types (XRTs), starting with ESG-related considerations and subsequently expanding to other operational risk types.
- Implementing and enhancing key risk management framework components, such as scenario analysis, external event management, identifying effective risk drivers, and establishing robust control objectives across various XRTs.
- Regularly reviewing and challenging the control framework to ensure alignment with evolving laws and regulations, actively working to avoid inconsistency in terms of control objectives or instances across different XRTs and promote efficiency.
- Providing updates to senior stakeholders and forums on key ESG initiatives
- Other tasks include analytical deep-dives, change initiatives, maintaining stakeholder dialogue and support for the team as projects arise.
Your skills and experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience in ESG and/or Sustainability risk management either in 1st or 2nd LoD
- Experience in a similar analysis and risk role with an understanding of risk management processes, preferably in operational risk, particularly from risk and controls perspective
- Strong risk management framework experience, with a proven ability to implement and manage key components such as scenario analysis, internal/external events, risk drivers, and controls across multiple cross-risk types
- Excellent experience in designing and managing operational risk frameworks in banking industry
- A strong understanding of how various operational risk types (e.g., operational, reputational, compliance) interconnect and can be managed through a unified framework, with ESG as a key starting point, including experience in reviewing and maintaining control frameworks to ensure regulatory alignment and prevent duplication
- Experience of dealing with stakeholders within a high pressured and dynamic environment, with strong oral and written skills to understand and clearly communicate complex issues to senior management
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrable experience in identifying, assessing, and managing cross-risk type events, risks, and controls, particularly those originating from or impacting ESG factors.
- Keen eye for detail and ability to work to deadlines, naturally proactive and willing to take responsibility for the successful delivery of initiatives.
- Ability to work across a diverse group of stakeholders within a complex organisation and to quickly develop strong working relationships with a broad range of functions, whilst play a supporting role across the team on various projects and tasks.
