Role Description

  • Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure Compute is establishing a Mainframe tower in India as part of the bank’s broader Compute strategy and Mainframe transformation agenda. This role is accountable for building and leading the India-based capability across Bangalore and Pune, covering critical platforms including z/OS, Tandem NonStop, and i-Series (AS400), and for partnering closely with CIO and application teams to support the transformation journey. The role holder will lead technology operations, service operations, governance, and operational resilience across the domain, including risk management, and will ensure stable, secure, compliant, and audit-ready production services across both vendor-supported and internally governed environments.
  • As a senior leader, the role holder will provide strategic direction across platform operations, service governance, asset and control ownership, and regulatory compliance. The individual will work in close partnership with global and local infrastructure teams, application owners, and control functions including Risk, Security, and Audit to maintain production stability, strengthen control effectiveness, and ensure that services consistently meet business, regulatory, resiliency, and contractual expectations. The role also requires the ability to build a strong India organization, establish clear accountability, make risk-based decisions, prioritize investment and capacity, and represent the domain credibly in executive and governance forums.
  • The role demands strong leadership in vendor governance, audit and regulatory engagement, control oversight, service improvement, financial and commercial stewardship, and executive stakeholder management. The successful candidate will drive a culture of operational excellence, accountability, simplification, and talent development, while ensuring that critical platforms remain fit for purpose, cost-effective, resilient, and aligned to enterprise technology strategy. Your key responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end production operations for critical platforms including z/OS, Tandem NonStop, and i-Series (AS400), with accountability for service stability, operational resilience, major incident leadership, timely recovery, and sustained service quality in business-critical environments.
  • Oversee platform health, service performance, capacity, change readiness, and production risk management across batch, online, database, security, scheduling, and file transfer components, ensuring risks are proactively identified, escalated, and mitigated.
  • Own and continuously strengthen the governance framework for platform operations, ensuring alignment with internal policies, technology standards, risk requirements, regulatory expectations, and operational resilience obligations.
  • Provide senior leadership for risk and control oversight across the domain, including compliance reviews, control attestations, control testing support, issue identification, remediation tracking, and timely resolution of audit, risk, and control actions.
  • Act as the senior accountable owner for internal and external audit and regulatory engagement, including evidence quality, management responses, remediation plans, stakeholder alignment, and sustainable closure of findings.
  • Lead strategic vendor governance for outsourced and vendor-supported services, ensuring effective delivery, contractual alignment, service-level performance, financial discipline, demand prioritization, and robust escalation and performance management.
  • Provide leadership oversight for technology asset and service ownership responsibilities across relevant infrastructure assets and services, including lifecycle governance, compliance, documentation, support models, and clear operational accountability.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships across operations, engineering, architecture, CIO and application teams, Security, Risk, Audit, Procurement, and business stakeholders, and communicate clearly to senior management on service performance, resilience, risk posture, and material issues.
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing India-based organization, fostering accountability, collaboration, talent development, continuous improvement, and simplification across geographically distributed teams and partners.
  • Drive service improvement and transformation priorities across the domain, ensuring platforms remain secure, compliant, cost-effective, fit for purpose, and aligned to the bank’s broader Compute strategy and Mainframe transformation objectives.

Your skills and experience

  • 15–20 years of progressive experience in mainframe, infrastructure, and production technology operations, including significant leadership experience in similar domains within large, complex, and highly regulated global financial institutions.
  • Proven senior leadership experience in production operations, service governance, operational resilience, audit and regulatory engagement, risk and control oversight, and vendor management.
  • Strong understanding of IBM Z / zOS platform operations, including key subsystems, service controls, and dependencies across security, batch, online, database, scheduling, and file transfer services.
  • Experience overseeing, governing, or supporting legacy platforms such as HPE Tandem NonStop, i-Series (AS400), or similarly critical infrastructure environments is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of SOX, audit, regulatory compliance, operational resilience, and technology control frameworks applicable to critical banking infrastructure.
  • Experience working with enterprise governance and control tooling, including dbGRC, control dashboards, JIRA, asset repositories, and related risk and remediation platforms.
  • Strong understanding of ITIL and service management disciplines, including incident, major incident, problem, change, service review, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead in a global, vendor-supported, and cross-functional environment, influencing senior stakeholders across businesses, functions, geographies, and control organizations.
  • Strong leadership capability, with experience building and developing high-performing teams, establishing accountability, and leading through transformation and organizational change.
  • Excellent communication, executive presentation, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills, with the ability to communicate complex operational and control matters clearly to senior leadership.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
