As a Vice President within the Finance Control Oversight team, you will play a pivotal leadership role in strengthening Deutsche Bank's Balance Sheet Substantiation (BSS) Framework, a critical pillar of our Sarbanes-Oxley (SOx) compliance efforts. This role is central to driving the effective implementation, administration, governance, and continuous enhancement of the BSS control globally. You will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end execution of BSS processes, ensuring robust financial reporting integrity, and leading strategic initiatives to elevate the control environment. The role demands strong leadership in people management, process oversight, and successful delivery of change and project initiatives.

Your key responsibilities
BSS Framework Leadership & Execution Oversight:
- Lead and maintain the Balance Sheet Substantiation (BSS) Framework, ensuring ongoing alignment with the broader SOx Framework
- Oversee BSS execution globally by collaborating closely with Finance which includes monitoring and escalation of emerging risks through Key Risk Indicators, driving timely resolution, and ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the balance sheet through robust substantiation, reconciliation, and targeted deep dives where required. This involves directing Finance teams and ensuring consistent application of global standards.
- Perform quality assurance and analytical reviews of BSS results, including back-testing and deep dives. Integrate findings with broader control metrics to strengthen overall control effectiveness, transparency, and accountability across the organization.
- Enhance and oversee the BSS training and awareness framework. This includes updating learning materials, delivering impactful training initiatives, and ensuring consistent application of substantiation requirements among Account Owners and stakeholders across all relevant entities and functions.
- Act as a primary Subject Matter Expert (SME) on BSS, accounting, and audit principles. Support the design, review, and governance of SOx-relevant controls in collaboration with FCO partners and key stakeholders, ensuring completeness and accuracy of control documentation.
- Assess BSS control testing outcomes to identify control deficiencies, risk exposures, and gaps. Align findings with global risk themes and drive effective escalation and remediation plans, ensuring proactive resolution.
- Support robust governance and management oversight by facilitating management discussions, preparing comprehensive updates, and monitoring key BSS developments, risks, and remediation progress for senior leadership.
BSS Strategic Delivery & Innovation:
- Drive and deliver strategic change initiatives aimed at enhancing the BSS Framework, improving process efficiency, and strengthening the overall control environment across the bank. This includes managing projects from conception through to successful implementation.
- Promote and lead automation and innovation efforts within BSS. This involves championing the development of AI-enabled solutions and other technological advancements to reduce manual, repetitive activities, improve scalability, and enhance operational efficiency.
People Management & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Provide direct oversight and guidance to junior team members involved in BSS execution and assurance activities, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Finance Leads, Audit, Risk Management, Operations, and IT teams globally to ensure cohesive BSS execution and strategic alignment.

Your skills and experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accountancy, Business Administration or similar field
- Preferably a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent professional accounting qualification.
- Significant experience (typically 7+ years) in SOx control, external/internal audit, or balance sheet substantiation within the banking and financial services industry.
- Strong knowledge of markets business, risk management, and regulatory environments pertinent to a global financial institution.
- Proven experience in team and project management, with the ability to lead, mentor, and develop direct reports and project teams.
- Advanced understanding of financial accounting principles (IFRS/GAAP), internal controls, and risk management frameworks. Experience with data analysis tools and an aptitude for leveraging technology (e.g., AI, RPA) for process improvement.
- Exceptional analytical capabilities to assess complex control issues, identify root causes, and develop effective solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly to diverse audiences, including senior management. Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain effective working relationships across various departments and regions.
- Ability to contribute to strategic planning and translate broad objectives into actionable plans, demonstrating foresight in identifying emerging risks and opportunities.
