Details of the role and how it fits into the team

The Chief Risk Office function has Group-wide responsibility for the management and control of all credit, market, operational, enterprise and liquidity risks and has the responsibility of continual development of methods for risk measurement, frameworks and creating a bank wide strong risk culture of Deutsche Bank.

Operational Risk Management (ORM) is a department within the Risk Division. As a Second Line of Defence function, ORM is responsible for oversight across all aspects of operational risk, including risk identification and assessment, control framework, risk appetite and scenario analysis.

This role will head up the Artificial Intelligence (AI) team within ORM and will be responsible for the development and implementation of the framework to support the risk management of this emerging cross-risk type globally.

Your key responsibilities

  • This role will lead the AI cross-risk type team in ORM. The individual will be a strategic leader tasked with leading the development and implementation of the AI cross-risk management framework globally. The role will support the Global Head of the New Business Office, Reputational Risk and OR ESG, AI and Digitalisation. This role, at a high level, is responsible for:

    • Leading the development of the AI cross-risk management framework.

    • Reviewing and challenging AI use cases within the Bank to ensure required controls are in place and use cases are in-line with appetite.

    • Participating in relevant AI oversight governance forums, including escalating issues as deemed appropriate.

    • Acting as a partner to all Businesses as they seek to explore new opportunities in these emerging topics to ensure they are supported in their endeavours but understand the need for a rigorous risk assessment.

    • Providing regulatory and external leadership on this emerging risk topic.

    • Managing a global team of 5+.

Your skills and experiences

  • Extensive experience in business, finance, risk management, consulting, or similar role within financial services including experience in managing a team.

  • Deep understanding of Artificial Intelligence, including commonly used technologies, typical use cases and current industry trends.

  • Clear understanding of AI-specific risks, such as model risk, bias, explainability, data privacy, security, over-reliance and regulatory risk and a strong understanding of the regulatory environment shaping the financial services industry response to the growth of AI.

  • Ability to translate technical AI concepts into risk and control implications.

  • Experience in Operational Risk Management within the 2LoD, including solid understanding of the core components underpinning an Operational Risk Framework.

  • Comprehensive understanding of the transactions and financials products offered by a Tier 1 investment bank as well as the supporting infrastructure and controls.

  • Ability to proactively work across a diverse group of senior stakeholders within a complex, dynamic environment and be willing to challenge as required.
