This position will consist of a hybrid, flexible work environment that will require a mixture of on-site, and in-office attendance, as well as the flexibility of a remote work environment. All working arrangements are subject to change as business requirements necessitate.


The Senior Director of Inventory Control and Technology will provide leadership and supervision for all inventory locations at the point of use, Responsible for processes and controls used to minimize inventory loss across Duke Health System. Through modeling, analysis, and reporting help drive strategies in support of excellence in operations and patient care.
Responsibilities will include inventory management leadership for all supply at the point of use, including, but not limited to, medical-surgical, complex physician preference items, procedural areas, sterile processing and ambulatory locations. This role has responsibility for evaluating and implementing point of use technology. The Senior Director Inventory Control will need to be a high energy, highly organized and analytically focused individual, who has strong interpersonal and influencing skills across a continuum of University based leaderships, Health system leaders, physicians and clinical care providers. This role requires a high level of understanding on data informatics as it relates to inventory management.


This position will develop and foster effective collaboration throughout Duke, including, but not limited to, all DUHS clinical departments, and other affiliated services to ensure an integrated approach to fulfilling Duke’s clinical, research and educational goals and objectives. Function as an effective liaison and intermediary between clinicians and Supply Chain and all key stakeholders. In general, facilitate inventory management technology to ensure effective and efficient delivery of clinical care. Communicate key information to the stakeholders of service areas with respect to project status and change in workflow. Participate in and support key committees pertaining to technology at the point if use.


Duties and Responsibilities of this Level
Reporting and trending performance measurements
Inventory integrity initiatives
Develop roadmap for annual cost reduction initiatives and execute strategies for achieving savings
Enhancements of policies, procedures, and process flows
Supervise Inventory Control Team. Supervise and coordinate work of a team(s) of professional procurement staff; manage personnel activities to meet Duke Health and departmental objectives in training, equal employment and pay, and wage and salary administration; advise on employment terms making recommendations and decisions regarding the coaching, counseling, evaluating, hiring and firing of department personnel.
Technology and process improvement
Ensure data flow of supplies/to the electronic medical record is robust, clean, and error-free
Support and ensure compliance with standard operating procedures
Monitor Inventory Control KPI in relationship to performance. Maintain a continuous learning environment for productivity performance and quality programs.

Develops and executes implementation plans targeted to support inventory control, clinical relationships, and system cohesiveness. Responsible for education, collaboration and execution of inventory control processes. Responsible and accountable for information delivery strategy and execution of effective metrics and tools to identify and track critical Procurement and Supply Chain performance measures that support business decisions, create best practice standards for inventory control, and drives best practice adoption across the enterprise. Develops short and long term plans relative to the Duke initiatives, ensuring complete integration and implementation of corporate supply management.


Improves operating efficiency and reduces operating costs for Duke by developing and implementing best in class inventory management technology and processes.
Promotes and supports the participation of staff in applying the principle/model of continuous improvement to improve existing processes and enhance the effective utilization of resources. Encourages the development of improved processes and expanded use of metrics via information technology.

Preferred Qualifications at this Level
Education:
Work requires completion of a Bachelor's degree related field.

Experience: Work requires ten years of progressively responsible inventory control, technology, and process improvement experience in healthcare. Three of the ten years must be in a supervisory role.

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Supply Chain Management, Nursing or related field. A MBA/MS considered a plus. Equivalent work experience considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Outstanding presentation and communication skills, must be effective public speaker that can present to all levels of executive, operational, and clinical leadership.

Distinguishing Characteristics of this Level Detailed industry knowledge and capabilities in relation to inventory management best practices, including the use of relevant technologies, bar code scanning capabilities, RFID and RPA applications. Skilled capabilities in Lean / Six Sigma / 5S / Continuous Improvement / Visual methodologies and practical applications.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education
Requires a bachelor's degree. Master's Degree strongly preferred. Certified project management and APICS certification a plus.

Experience
Minimum of ten years in progressively responsible positions including supervision and program leadership.
Willingness to effectively lead through an evolving and dynamic work environment, consisting of both in-person and remote working arrangements (Hybrid).
