Occ Summary

Perform a variety of routine and advanced patient care tasks under the direction of nursing staff to assist medical and nursing personnel in the examination, treatment, and care of patients. Perform a variety of clerical and technical tasks as assigned.


Work Performed

Perform a variety of roles and responsibilities which may include the Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. required. following: Clean assigned area; stock and replenish supplies and equipment as Prepare patients, equipment and supplies for specific procedures and ambulation, enemas, skin care, and bowel and bladder elimination; Collect, deliver and conduct routine tests on patient specimens. provide such additional care as required to meet the personal needs and Participate in personal care interventions to patients of all ages, under the direction of nursing staff, provide meal tray preparation, feeding, recording intake and output, bathing, shaving, changing clothes, cleaning and trimming fingernails, bed-making, assisting comfort of assigned patients. Perform basic dressings and wound care. Perform CPR. Function as patient attendant for patients who have been identified as high risk for harm to self or others and safety concerns. provide manual assistance as required. Escort or transport patients that do not require any hemodynamic monitoring. Maintain readiness of HAZMAT Room. Provide assistance during hazmat decontamination procedures. Perform a variety of EKG technician tasks as required, to include: routine and STAT EKGs, order verification and electronic transmission of EKGs, accommodation of special EKG requests, i.e., with or without magnet or right sided EKG tracings, the stocking and maintenance of EKG machines, and the retrieval of old EKGs from the Heart Station. Perform a variety of Health Unit Coordinator (EDUC) tasks. Tasks might include, but are not limited to, operate and trouble-shoot office equipment; maintain organizationof the assigned desk; manage lab specimens and orders; answer the telephone and/or patient signals. Perform adult, isolated venipuncture for collection of routine blood specimens and blood cultures.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Heavy lifting and the ability to transport stretcher and wheelchair procedures. patients to various hospital locations are required. Must be able to provide care and services to all patients from birth to the elderly. Must have excellent prioritization skills in addition to their basic knowledge and skills. Must be able to work in a fast-paced unpredictable environment under very stressful conditions. Must be able to be trained in all aspects of hazmat decontamination Must be very goal-directed with a great deal of initiative since they function at a very independent level within the Emergency Department. Must demonstrate competency validation in skills and knowledge for performance of roles and responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications


Education

Work requires graduation from an accredited high school or a GED. Work requires the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Successful completion of the NCA I training as defined by the Division of Facility Services in the State of North Carolina or North Carolina EMT training.


Experience

One year of related health care experience as an NCA, ED Tech, EMT, orequivalent.


Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

Current minimum listing as an NCA I with the Division of Facility Services or current minimum certification credential as EMT with no substantiated findings of abuse, fraud, neglect or misappropriation of property. Current certification in phlebotomy or successful completion of DUHS venipuncture training. BLS Required
