Occupational Summary – Application Development Analyst

The Application Development team in the Office of Academic Solutions and Information Systems (OASIS) builds, implements and supports software and data solutions for Duke’s research community. The OASIS development analyst role combines several traditional roles including business analyst and QA analyst. Development analysts work collaboratively with OASIS service owners and the software development teams to test, document and support custom software solutions. This position would be part of the Sponsored Research team within OASIS Application Development.

We are looking for a motivated self-starter with excellent organizational and communication skills to coordinate the development of custom software. The ideal candidate has knowledge of research administration processes and experience in software testing.

Note: Grant deadlines and production releases will require availability outside of normal business hours.

Work Performed

Analysis & Development (10%)

  • Help ensure that project milestones are met
  • Help ensure enhancements, bug fixes, and technology upgrades to existing applications are completed in a timely manner and in accordance with stakeholder priorities

Software Testing (50%)

  • Plan and coordinate testing for new applications and features
  • Help develop and document feature acceptance tests
  • Help develop and maintain regression tests
  • Perform manual feature and regression testing
  • Work with developers to automate regression tests so that minimal manual testing is required
  • Participate in application testing activities during maintenance and upgrade cycles to ensure quality is maintained

Implementation (10%)

  • Coordinate implementation of major releases, enhancements, patches and technology upgrades (e.g., Rails upgrades, database upgrades, OS patch releases)
  • Schedule releases in ServiceNow

User Support (30%)

  • Monitor Grants. Duke submissions
  • Provide third-level end-user support for OASIS applications
  • Create and maintain ServiceNow knowledge base articles
  • Participate in OASIS Firewatch rotation

Required Qualifications

Education/Training:

Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and technical experience required.

Experience:

No experience required beyond the minimum education (or equivalency) requirement.
