Occupational Summary

Apply project management knowledge, technical and interpersonal skills, and project management tools and techniques to meet the project requirements of academic projects coordinated through the Academic Project Management Core.

Work Performed

Implement standard project management processes, tools and methodology to support large or complex academic projects and initiatives. Consistently applying strong judgement, political acumen and standard project management methodology, processes, and tools to projects.

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Plan, lead, and facilitate project team meetings
  • Develop and implement communication plans
  • Develop detailed task lists and standard operating procedures
  • Drive project initiation and management activities
  • Train, manage, and mentor project team personnel
  • Work with functional managers to resolve schedule and resource conflicts. Escalate difficult project issues as appropriate.

Education/Training

  • Bachelor's degree. Additional training in Project Management or related training is desired.

Experience

  • Four years of progressively responsible experience in academic project management, including complex projects involving multiple stakeholders. Experience in curriculum development, academic assessment and accreditation, program evaluation, cross-school collaboration in higher education, team management, and/or Duke processes is strongly preferred. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Ability to manage complex relationship, adapt to multiple organizational cultures, demonstrate political acumen and work with executives
  • Ability to independently drive multiple projects at one time
  • Demonstrated experience delivering quality project outcomes and meeting project deadlines
  • Strong problem solving, strategic thinking, and time management skills
  • Knowledge of higher education administration
  • Well qualified candidates will have knowledge of Duke’s academic structure and resources

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree. Additional training in Project Management coursework or certification in Project Management is desired.

Experience

Four years of progressively responsible experience in project management, including complex projects involving multiple functional groups. Experience in medical education/publishing, clinical research, or medical product development is desired OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
