Position Overview:

The Software Validation Engineer at the Duke Reading Center (DRC) works under the supervision of the Solutions Architect and Research Scientist, reporting to the Administrative Manager. The primary responsibilities include leading software validation and testing processes, maintaining test scripts, and contributing to project teams for solution design and implementation. The role requires a proactive approach to ensuring software quality and functionality across DRC projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Enhance and lead the software validation process to ensure adherence to project requirements and standards. (20%)

• Design, implement and lead the software testing process, including planning, execution, and documentation of test cases. (20%)

• Create and maintain test scripts to reflect software changes and project requirements. (15%)

• Design and implement a bespoke platform for and executing automated tests to streamline software validation procedures. (15%)

• Perform manual testing of software changes when necessary to validate functionality. (10%)

• Actively participate as a contributing member of project teams, providing insights and support from project inception to completion. (10%)

• Collaborate closely with the Solutions Architect and Research Scientist to design and implement effective IT solutions aligned with project objectives. (10%)

To add to this, based on what we discussed on the phone yesterday, Will’s role is to be the authority on software testing and validation at DRC – he will be the individual called on to answer questions about validation and testing processes by DRC personnel as well as potentially auditors in the future. There is a technical piece to this, in the form of designing and implementing automated test frameworks for our various applications. These do not exist today, and it is specifically his expertise as a Sr. SDET that qualifies him to do this – which is a senior level technical position.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Proficiency in software testing methodologies, tools, and best practices.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment, collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Prior experience in healthcare or research environments is advantageous but not required.
