DEPARTMENTAL PREFERENCES
B.S. Degree - Construction/Facilities Management; Engineering
CHFM strongly preferred
Healthcare experience preferred.
Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills are essential.
Requires knowledge of regulatory compliance, financial management, and the overall operational aspects of a healthcare facility.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education - B.S. degree in related Engineering field or equivalent.
Experience - Requires a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in complex facilities management, with at least five (5) years at the senior management level with proven supervisory experience.

- Manage all aspects of facility operations, including maintenance, repairs, and renovations, to ensure business continuity and compliance of all spaces.
- Ensure all facilities and preventive maintenance programs comply with all applicable local, state and federal codes, regulations, and healthcare standards (Joint Commission, NFPA, OSHA, AALAC, FGI, etc.).
- Align facility plans with the hospital's overall strategic goals and ensure the physical environment supports the delivery of high-quality patient care, research, and education. This includes assessing current facility conditions, forecasting future needs, and developing short- and long-range strategic plans. Maintain short- and long-range capital replacement forecast and cash flows. Ensure projects are executed in a way that provides the best value to Duke Health for each unique situation.
- Manage departmental budgets, forecast expenses, and analyze financial reports to identify areas for improvement and efficiency. Track expenses, identify variances from the budget, and report monthly on financial performance. Negotiate and manage contracts with vendors, ensuring cost-effective procurement of goods and services. Effectively communicate financial information to staff, fostering a culture of fiscal responsibility and accountability. Interpret financial reports, monitoring spending, and ensure efficient resource utilization to maintain operational excellence and patient care.
- Implement initiatives to reduce environmental impact in alignment with Duke Health’s climate and sustainability goals. Promote sustainable practices within the facility and when evaluating new solutions and infrastructure installations.
- Maintain a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. Be a role model for the team, living our values of teamwork, integrity, safety, respect, diversity, and excellence in both your words and actions. Maintain a positive work environment for all team members built on trust, clear communication, sincere appreciation, and mutual respect. Provide continuous feedback to those you directly support and ensure frequent and clear feedback occurs throughout the department at all levels. Proactively address human resource issues that could negatively impact the team, morale, or performance.
- Grow and develop internal talent through training, education, and mentorship. Ensure there is a viable succession plan in place for every shop and work group.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with clinical service line leaders, research space management leaders, and non-clinical support leaders.
- Ensure there is clear and timely communication and escalation with unit, building, and executive leaders concerning emergent and urgent situations, 24/7/365. Maintain a n efficient and responsive 24/7 customer service and emergency response program. This position is required to be on the weekly on-call rotation schedule with other E&O managers and directors.
- Prepare reports and presentations for hospital and research leaders, including annual budget presentations, incident reports, A3s, lessons learned and after-action reports, and training documents.
