Occupational Summary

Work Performed

  • Coordinate and monitor the design, development, modification and implementation of information technology applications; provide technical support and leadership for the database environment; provide and design tools to assist in the management of the database and client/server environment; provide training to technical support and applications staff in the effective utilization of database; provide data warehousing.
  • Develop methodology for the ongoing assessment of database performance; identify and resolve conflicts arising over the creation, control and use of data; develop and enforce database use guidelines.
  • Monitor database performance and serve as quality control agent for database use.
  • Provide backup and recovery services.
  • Provide consultation and training sessions to database users.
  • Participate in development of long-range planning for new projects and facilities, serve in an advisory capacity on database procedures and methods.
  • Ensure that external and internal regulations and policies governing data management are met including regulations concerning security, auditability and privacy.
  • Provide technical direction to, instruct and coordinate the individual assignments of lower rated analysts.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training: Work requires a Bachelor's degree in mathematics, computer science, or a

computer related field.

Experience: Work requires 4 years of progressive programming or database administration

experience to include design, implementation, tuning, backup, recovery, modification and reorganization of relational databases for a complex computer network. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Anticipated Pay Range:

Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $61,109.00 to USD $129,461.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
